IN LOVING MEMORY

Of our beloved friend and Brother, Rev. J. B. Bloss. Brother Bloss passed from this life on July 17, 1959. He was laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery in Columbia, Tenn. Bro. Bloss was the founder of the Progressive Association o.f Alabama. The Association got it's name from a man that believed in progress. Bro. Bloss pastored and evangelized in Alabama for a number of years. He organized more than a score of churches over the states. Many hundreds of people have been led to God through his ministry. Many of our pastors and preachers of today were led to God by the preaching of Brother Bloss. He was a great supporter of national work. He served as chairman and a member of our National Home Mission Board for 17 years. Having traveled and preached in most of our United States, he was well known as a preacher of power and convictions.

We feel that the passing of Bro. Bloss was a great loss to ou1· Association as well as the National Association.

He was a man of sympathy and und ; rstanding. He will be missed by the many friends, and we s' all long remember him. We shall look forward to another grand meeting with him when we stand in the presence of the blessed Son of God.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

We, t he Committee on Christian Education recommend that we retain s uggestions of last years committee, Numbers 1 - 3.

1. In the Home. A child's Christian training should begin in the home. Therefore, parents should realize their responsibility to train up a child in the way he should go. They should be faithfu l in church worship, and in everything strive to live a Christ-like life before their children.

2. In the Church In view of the fact that many parents fail to give their children any Christian training whatsoever, the responsibility of the church is made much g1·eater. We recommend that Sunday School and League teachers be chosen cal·efully and prayerfully. Each church should endeavor to conduct study courses to help their members as well as the teachers to better understand the word of God and all the phases of our work. The churches should make a greater effort to help support Free Will Baptist Bible College and should encourage their young to prepare themselves for Christian work.

3. In view of the fact that Free Will Baptists have a school for Christian workers which is Free Will Baptist College, Nashville, Tennessee and a liberal-arts College at Mt. Olive, N. C. We r ecommend that Free Will Baptist people urge t heir children to attend one of these schools for post high school work.

4. We recommend that a ll cburches be requested to hold a study course for Sunday School teachers at least once a quarter and that teachers and prospective teachers attend. Also that teachers be encouraged to use visual a ids.

CHTJRCH COVEN ANT .Having given ourselves to God, by faith in Jesus Christ,

and adopted the Word of God as our rule of faith and practice, we now give ourselves to one another by the Will of God in this solemn covenant.

We promise by His grace to love and obey Him in all things, to avoid all appearance of evil, to abstain from all sinful amu~ements and unholy conformity to the world, from all sanction of the use and sale of intoxicating beverages, and to provide things honest in the sight of all men.

We ::~gree faithfully to discharge our obligations in reference to study of the scriptures, secret prayer, family devotions, and social worship, and by self-denial, faith, and good works endeavor to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We wil1 not forsake the assembling of ourselves together for church conferences, public worship, and the observance of the ordinances of the Gospel, nor fail to pay according to our ability for the support of the church, of its poor, and all its benevolent work.

We agree to accept Christian admonition and reproof with meekness. and to watch over one another in love, endeavoring to "keep t he unity of the Spirit" in the bonds of peace, to be careful 0f one another's happiness and reputation, and seek to strengthen the weak, encourage the afflicted, admonish the erring, and as far as we are able promote the success of the church and of the Gospel.

We will everywhere hold Christian principle sacred and Chri stian obligations and enterprises supreme; counting it our chief business in life to extend the influence of Christ in soci Ptv; constantly praying and toiling that the Kingdom of God may come, and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

To this end we agree to labor for the promotion of education and rlenominational enterprises, the support of Missions, the ~ucrP~S of Sunday schools, and evangelistic efforts for the ~alvation of the World.
