“Twas the Night Before Christmas
A Poem for Two Voices
![Page 2: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/2.jpg)
‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
![Page 3: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care
in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.
![Page 4: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
The children were nestled all snug in their bed,
while visions of sugar plums danced in their heads.
![Page 5: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
And mama in her ‘kerchief and I in my cap,
had just settled down for a long winter’s nap.
![Page 6: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
When out on the roof there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
![Page 7: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
tore open the shutter, and threw up the sash.
![Page 8: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow
gave a luster of midday to objects below.
![Page 9: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but a miniature sleigh
![Page 10: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
and eight tiny reindeer.
![Page 11: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
With a little old driver, so lively and quick
![Page 12: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
I knew in a moment
it must be
![Page 13: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
St. Nick.
![Page 14: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
He whistled and shouted and called them by name:
![Page 15: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
“Now Dasher! Now, Dancer!
Now Prancer and Vixen!
![Page 16: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
“On, Comet! On Cupid!
On, Donder and Blitzen!”
![Page 17: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
To the top of the wall!
To the top of the porch!
![Page 18: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Now dash away, dash away, dash away
all!
![Page 19: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
![Page 20: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
So up to the housetop the courses they flew,
with a sleigh full of toys--
![Page 21: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
And St. Nicholas too.
![Page 22: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
the prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
![Page 23: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
As I drew in my head and was turning around
down the chimney St. Nicholas
![Page 24: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
came with a bound.
![Page 25: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot
and his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;
![Page 26: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
and he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.
![Page 27: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
His eyes, how they twinkled! His dimples, how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
![Page 28: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
and the beard on his chin was white as the snow.
![Page 29: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth
and the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath.
![Page 30: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/30.jpg)
He had a broad face
and a round little belly
![Page 31: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/31.jpg)
That shook when he laughed like a bowl full
of jelly.
![Page 32: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/32.jpg)
He was chubby and plump—a right jolly old elf
and I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
![Page 33: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/33.jpg)
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.
![Page 34: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/34.jpg)
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
and filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk,
![Page 35: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/35.jpg)
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
and giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.
![Page 36: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/36.jpg)
He sprang to his sleigh to his team gave a whistle,
and away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
![Page 37: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/37.jpg)
But I heard him exclaim,
‘ere he drove out of sight.
![Page 38: “Twas the Night Before Christmas A Poem for Two Voices](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022032200/56649f3f5503460f94c5ff7f/html5/thumbnails/38.jpg)
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good
night!”
