TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
As usual, start with creating a canvas. Select File-New, then enter the required
specifications.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
Open a photo you wish to work with. Select File-Open. Then click on Restore Down
icon at the top right corner.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
Drag the image onto the canvas and resize.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
We are going to record an action (that you will be able to use for other images as well
as this one). Select Window-Action. Click on New Action icon in the Action Window
and click on Record.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
Select Ctrl-J to duplicate the image layer and change the blend mode to Lighten.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
We are going to move the layer. Select Move Icon and check the Show Transform
Controls box. Then use Arrow Keys to move the image vertically and horizontally. I
used two notches up and two to the right, but this depends on the image resolution
and size.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
We repeat the process by duplicating the modified layer (Ctrl+J). This time we move
the layer in different directions (eg. two down, two left).
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
We repeat the process and move the image differently. I went three up and three left.
This depends on the effect you wish to achieve. When you are happy with the effect,
click on the Stop icon to stop the action.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
Highlight Default Action Folder and from the Flyout menu, select Save Actions and
save them in your assignment folder.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
We are going to repeat the action. Highlight Action 1 and click on the Play icon.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
Highlight all the duplicated layers (click on the top one and while holding Shift Key,
click on the bottom one). Then select Layer-New-Group from Layers.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
We are going to bring some details back to the image. Click on the Mask icon. The
mask will be white, and white covers nothing. Black does, so when you paint the white
mask with black, the black part becomes visible. Use Brush Tool to brush white and
black interchangeably to achieve the effect you wish to have. Brush should be soft
edge. Resize the brush size here and there to achieve uneven application of the mask.
You can resize the brush size using the bracket keys.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
While holding the Alt Key, select Layer-Merge Visible. Then change the blend mode to
Multiply.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
Select Layer-Smart Objects-Convert to Smart Object. Then select Filter-Blur-Gaussian
Blur. Change the amount of Blur to achieve the effect you wish to have. Check and
uncheck the Preview box to examine the effect.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
We are going to brighten up the image using Curve. Click on the Adjustment Icon and
select Curve and slide the White to the left to achieve the brightness you wish to have.
Check and uncheck the Preview box to examine the effect.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
We are going to cover the effect by changing the white mask to black. Make sure the
mask is selected, and select Edit-Fill and fill with black.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
We are going to brighten up certain parts using the brush, but first we set the brush.
Select Window-Brush and highlight the Brush Tip Shape and select 27 Spatter.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
Highlight Shape Dynamics and slide the Size Jitter to 100%.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
Highlight Scattering and slide Scatter to about 110%.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
Use White and Black interchangeably to achieve the effect you wish to have. With this
particular image, I decided to brighten up just the edges.
TUTORIAL - AUTUMN
Done.
