Scheduling Custom Exams – Manual Scheduling

Students must be scheduled before they can take an exam. From your My School tab, select Custom Exams. Across from the test name, select Actions, then Schedule Exam.

Press Select across from the class (you could potentially see multiple classes here).

To schedule the date and time of the exam, click the Name box to select all the students and press the Schedule button. Press Schedule across from the student’s name to schedule that specific individual only.

Enter the Start and End dates and times (this is simply the time the test will be available for the students to begin the exam). Once the students begin they will have the time you designated to complete the test. Students marked with a learning disability will have additional time to complete the exam.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you teach students in various time zones, the scheduled time is based off your time zone, so for instance an exam scheduled at 1pm eastern time, would be available for students in California at 10am.

Students can take the exam anywhere during the time you’ve selected. So if you want to ensure students come to the classroom or a testing center, you should password protect the exam. Please note that this password field is case sensitive and you will need to provide the password to the students or testing center personnel.

Click Done to save.

The students’ names will move to the Scheduled tab. By default students have a onetime take of any custom exam. However, you can reschedule an exam a student missed or already finished.

Scheduling Custom Exams – Automatic Scheduling

You can automatically schedule all students in your class by selecting the Automatic Scheduling button and selecting the Enable automatic exam scheduling. The next time students log in the exam will be available, but they can choose to take the exam anytime within the next 12 months from the time they were scheduled. Of course you can set a deadline though this can’t be enforced in LabSim.

This feature will automatically schedule students already enrolled in the class as well as those who will enroll in subsequent days. Press Save Changes to exit.

Taking Custom Exams

Students will see a 0 in the Pending Exams box until the date/time occur for the test when a 1 will then appear in Pending Exams. Students see upcoming exams under their respective class by clicking the Pending Exams box.

After students click the Pending Exams box, they will be able to see the exam details as well as Start Exam. The Start Exam link will be grayed out until the actual date and time when the text will change color (Start Exam) for access.
