Thank you for your support! Dear Friends, I hope this newsletter finds you healthy and safe. I regret that I am unable to meet most of you in-person as the pandemic has locked us away from each other. For those of you whom I've not met, I have had the honor to serve as the new director of the Turner Senior Wellness Program since March I've not served a single day when the center was open to the public. I've not witnessed the energy of our exercise classes, the warmth of our volunteer greeters, the conversation that happens in our lobby, the spirited competition between friends playing bridge and mah-jongg, or the laughter and joy of everyone coming together in-person. Let me tell you what I have witnessed in my short time here. I've seen a staff pull together to check in with our participants and start a phone reassurance program. I've seen volunteers checking in with one another. I've seen staff and volunteers scramble to make sure as many of our programs as possible could be enjoyed virtually. We, along with you, have adapted to new technology where we've exercised, meditated, learned, and socialized together. Groups have inspired me like TAASC (Turner African American Service Council) who meet every two weeks for hours through Zoom and through the phone (for those who don't have access to the technology) to plan and carry out their mission because no pandemic and no one would ever get in their way. Please know that we are here! If you need help, resources, or just a friendly person to call you each week for friendship and conversation, please let us know. We are slowly reopening our center but will do whatever it takes to keep you connected and safe. You'll find a newsletter that is a little different this year. Most of the programs are virtual. We have a few that will meet in person as long as it's safe to do so. We have an easy way to register online for most of our programs but we are always available by phone to help you out!
