Objectives…
• To explore the relationship between geographers and the media
• To suggest some creative ways that geographers can harness the media for use in their classroom, or to help ‘read’ the world…
• To explore some ideas related to cultural geography.
What is Creativity ?• Creativity involves thinking or behaving imaginatively; • This imaginative activity is purposeful: that is, it is directed to achieving an objective; • These processes must generate something original; (this is explained as being something new to the learner – a new discovery, a new way of thinking to them)• The outcome must be of value in relation to the objective
DfES response to Roberts Report (2006) and based on NACCCE All our Futures and work by QCA
CreativityCreativity addresses the way teachers reshape the curriculum at all stages in order to better enable Scotland’s young people to become s u c c e s s f u l le a r n e r s , c o n f id e n t in d iv id u a ls , r e s p o n s ib le c it iz e n s a n d e f f e c t iv e c o n t r ib u t o r s . There is an increasing recognition that creativity improves the self-esteem, motivation and achievement of learners. Pupils who are encouraged to think creatively become: • more interested in discovering things for themselves;• more open to new ideas and challenges;• more able to solve problems;• more able to work well with others and more effective learners.They also have greater ownership over their learning.

Oliver, no fan of political correctness, has hit back at reports he's been banned from the British town Rotherham – filming location for the celebrity chef's Ministry of Food.Talk of a ban surfaced when residents of Rotherham accused Oliver of portraying them as "dumbos" and "numpties".Oliver says the ban is "bollocks" and that he's been targeted by a minority of locals who see his show as an Oliver "vanity project" rather than a genuine campaign to help people whose diets are so appalling that they're eating themselves to death.A Rotherham local, former chef Alan Dale, says: "My message to Jamie is to stay away. Feelings are running high because he has made us look like complete idiots."
