    safe for human contact. Note: Residues are not water soluble. Wash down waters may still containresidues which require treatment through local effluent treatment plant. Do not contaminatewatercourse. Dispose of residues in chemical waste disposal area in accordance with relevant Stateand Federal requirements.

    SECTION 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

    Safe Handling: Observe recommendations made under SECTION 8. EXPOSURECONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION. Always handle with impervious gloves and chemical splashgoggles. Use in a well ventilated area. This product contains dichloromethane which is a highlyvolatile solvent. Precautions should be taken to minimise vapour concentrations in the workenvironment. Workers should not work alone when dichloromethane is used in open tanks for paintstripping.2

    Storage: Store indoors in a cool, dry, well ventilated area. Keep containers sealed when not in use.Containers may explode if heated beyond 60?C. Protect from physical damage. Keep away fromincompatible materials. Store according to relevant State Dangerous Goods Storage Requirements.

    SECTION 8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION

    National exposure standards: TWA : 1 ppm (4 mg/m3) as phenol 50 ppm (174 mg/m3) as dichloromethane

    Engineering controls: A local mechanical exhaust system is required where vapour or mistis being generated.

    Personal protective equipment: Use good industrial hygiene. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.Wear suitable protective clothing, safety footwear, silver shield/4H gloves and chemical splashgoggles or full face shield. Use in a well ventilated area. If inhalation risk exists, wear an organicvapour respirator or air supplied mask complying with the requirements of AS 1715 and AS 1716.

    SECTION 10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY

    Chemical stability: Stable under normal conditions of temperature and pressure.Conditions to avoid: Avoid strong heat sources and open flames.Incompatible materials: Keep away from alkalies, powdered metals and strong oxidising agents.Hazardous decomposition products: When heated to decomposition, it will emit toxic fumes ofphosgene and acrid smoke.Hazardous reactions: Will not polymerise.

    SECTION 11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

    HEALTH EFFECTS:

    Acute:Ingestion: Toxic if swallowed. This product can cause serious burns to the mouth, throat

    and digestive tract. Systemic effects by ingestion may include nausea,vomiting, stomach pain, blood disorders, convulsions, a change in cardiac rate,coma and damage to the liver, kidneys and pancreas.

    Skin: Toxic and corrosive to skin. Absorption of this product through the skin maycause serious effects to the central nervous system, liver, kidneys and spleen.May cause sensitisation by skin contact.

    Eyes: Liquid contact with the eyes can cause severe burns which may result inpermanent injury or even blindness.

    Inhalation: Inhalation of vapour or mist may cause respiratory irritation and burns to themucous membranes. Exposure to high concentrations of vapour may causeirregular heartbeat, headache, lung congestion and narcosis. May causerespiratory sensitisation.

    Chronic: This material can cause corrosive damage to skin tissue. Long term inhalationexposure may lead to blood disorders, kidney and liver damage, chest pain andharmful effects on the central nervous system. Dichloromethane is regarded asa Category 3 Carcinogen. This product contains less than one percent sodiumdichromate, which is classified as a Category 2 Carcinogen, Category 2Mutagen and is Toxic to reproduction (Category 2)
