• Large, complex form in three basic parts:

Sonata-allegro form

Exposition – Stable. Introduces themes. Repeated.Development – Unstable. “Develops” (fragments, modulates,

generally messes with) themes.Recapitulation – Stable. Repeat of the exposition. Musical

material is transposed to home key.
