Fall Kick-Off: Making Disciples Who Make Disciples Operation Christmas Child From Your Pastor

Our Go-Getter’s had a beautiful day in Greenville on August 5th tasting some of Greenville’s wonderful cuisine. It was a fun filled day with great fellowship and lots of laughs. You definitely don’t come home hungry from one of these tours. As usual Carolina Tours did an outstanding trip. We had a good crowd at our Go-Getter’s luncheon at the Cracker Barrel on August 13th. Everyone is ready to start our Go-Getter’s new season on September 10th. So mark this date on your calendars at 6:30 pm for our next meeting in the Fellowship Hall. We look forward to seeing everyone there. Our meal will be potluck, so bring a dish to share. We plan to have the Joy Tappers come and perform some of their new dance routines for us along with Kirstin Tanner who will sing for us. They have performed for us before and we are looking forward to having them again. Ministry Kit Item – For September, we will continue supporting the Prisoner Christmas Packets. Two rolls of hard candy (such as Life Savers, Mentos, or Breath Savers) are needed for these packets. We need 50 additional rolls of candy to complete this item in the kits that Go-Getters have been helping with this year. Thank you so much for your donations to these ministry kits you have been supporting. These kits mean so much to so many.

Will you consider purchasing some items for OCC while you are out and about? Please drop these items off in the Missions Corner located in the Education Wing. Please contact Cindy Watts at 843.834.0697 if you have any questions. August is notebooks and pads. September we will be collecting playdough,

Chunky trunks, matchbox cars.

This is one of my favorite times of the year! High school, college and pro football teams are preparing and practicing for the beginning of a new season. Even the worst teams are hoping this year is the year! Even we Gamecock fans are hoping this year is “next year”!

Churches are also preparing for a “new season”! But we are preparing for more than just a game! Our new season begins this Sunday, August 18 with the “Kickoff” of fall ministries! During the summer our life becomes very busy (family, vacation, etc.) but church and ministry involvement often slows down. It can be very easy for us to begin this new season without a sense of expectation and urgency, as if we are lulled to sleep by the “lazy days” of summer.

As we begin a “new season”, I want to encourage you to begin it with the expectation of and devotion to making this one of the greatest seasons of your personal spiritual growth and of/to bearing much fruit for God’s glory!

I hope you will allow God to work in you by attending a Sunday School class and/or Bible Study this fall. I also hope that you would prayerfully consider allowing Him to work through you to “make disciples”!

I want to encourage you, if you are not already connected to a Sunday School class and/or Bible Study, to commit to joining one this month! If you are not already serving in a ministry of the church, I want to encourage you to pray and ask God where He would have you serve! I also want to encourage you to pray for our mission and goal of “Making disciples who make disciples”. If you need help with either, I would love to help you! Lee Howell, Family Ministry Pastor

Girls In Action (GA’s) Save the Date Events The GA’s will be participating in Christmas in August by collecting supplies for Robert E. Arnold, Chaplin for VA Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines, Iowa. In his role, he provides not only pastoral care to patients but

also education and counseling in the midst of assessing and addressing patient’s problems in life.

Chaplin Arnold’s primary duties are to provide spiritual care to hospitalized patients. Many of their veterans are homeless or without sufficient family support in their lives. They find comfort in having the presence of chaplains for spiritual care while they are in the hospital. The boxed items are needed. They can be put in the GA basket in the mission’s corner of Education Hall. Thank you for supporting our GA’s, Sondra Kucklick, GA Leader 843.834.1228

T-Shirts (larger sizes), hot cocoa packets, socks, coloring books,

(children & adult), coffee, puzzle books, and small crayon packets

Join us in praying for teachers, students, and schools as the new year begins. Especially our partnership school, AC Corcoran. For more information on how you can participate and support AC Corcoran refer to the Heart for Schools flyer, or contact Cindy Watts at 843.834.0697.

~Sewing Ministry Next Meeting ~ Thursday, September 5th, 6:30PM

Fellowship Hall

Can you believe that summer vacation is coming to an end and that most of our schools start back next week? This serves as a reminder to me, and hopefully you as well, that I need to be praying for the teachers, administrators, and all school faculty as they prepare for the return of their students. I also need to pray for the students as they return to continue learning and preparing for their future. If you find yourself driving by a school, take the time to pray for that school specifically.

I want to thank everyone who contributed to the backpack give away that we had at our Free Yard Sale and everyone who took the name of a teacher at A.C. Corcoran to buy supplies for. Keep that teachers name written somewhere that will remind you to pray for them during the school year. If you want more information about our partnership with A.C. Corcoran and how you can be involved, please see me or Lee Howell.

This Sunday, I will begin a three weeks sermon series on prayer. I believe that everything that we do as individuals and as a church should happen from an attitude of prayer. I wish that I could tell you that I have this mastered, but I don’t and that is why I need the reminder of the importance of prayer that we will learn from the Bible. This coming Sunday we will be looking at 2 Chronicles 7 so make sure that you read it ahead of time.

I am looking forward to seeing you this Sunday morning in Sunday School at 9:45 and worship at 11:00. I hope that you will invite someone to attend with you.

I Love Being Your Pastor! Stephen
