SINGING AROUND THE BANDSTAND
Since the 1970s racegoers have gathered at the end of each day of the Royal Meeting for a joyous choir.
It was the late Lady Jinny Beaumont, wife of Sir Nicky Beaumont, Clerk of the Course from 1969 to 1994, that first introduced this communal
tradition that has become synonymous with Royal Ascot.
She was famed for conducting the band and the event grew in popularity to such an extent that song books were distributed and a bandstand
erected in 2007 to recognise this prized Ascot tradition.
Royal Enclosure members and Grandstand ticket holders can gather around the Bandstand on the Plaza Lawns from 6pm to enjoy this
unique occasion.
This year we celebrate John Park’s 50th birthday and 10th anniversary leading Royal Ascot’s communal singing around the Bandstand.

MY BONNIE LIES OVER THE OCEAN
My Bonnie lies over the oceanMy Bonnie lies over the sea
My Bonnie lies over the oceanOh bring back my Bonnie to me
Bring back, bring backOh bring back my Bonnie to me, to me
Bring back, bring backOh bring back my Bonnie to me
Last night as I lay on my pillowLast night as I lay on my bed
Last night as I lay on my pillowI dreamt that my Bonnie was dead
Bring back, bring back Oh bring back my Bonnie to me, to me
Bring back, bring backOh bring back my Bonnie to me
DAISY
Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer doI’m half crazy, all for the love of you
It won’t be a stylish marriageI can’t afford a carriage
But you’ll look sweet upon the seatOf a bicycle made for two
KEEP RIGHT ON TO THE END OF THE ROAD
Keep right on to the end of the roadKeep right on to the end
Though it may be long let your heart be strongKeep right on round the bend
Though you’re tired and weary still journey onTill you come to your happy abode
Where all the love you’ve been dreaming ofWill be there at the end of the road

MY OLD MAN
My old man said ‘Follow the Van’And don’t dilly dally, on the way
Off went the cart with the home packed in itI walked behind with my old Cock Linnet
But I dillied and dallied, dallied and dilliedLost the van, and don’t know where to roam
Well you can’t trust a special like the old time coppersWhen you can’t find your way ‘ome!
PACK UP YOUR TROUBLES
Pack up your troubles in your old kit bagAnd smile, smile, smile
While you’ve a lucifer to light your fagSmile boys, that’s the styleWhat’s the use of worrying
It never was worthwhileSo, pack up your troubles in your old kit bag
And smile, smile, smile
I’M FOREVER BLOWING BUBBLES
I’m forever blowing bubblesPretty bubbles in the air
They fly so high, nearly reach the skyThen like my dreams, they fade and die
Fortune’s always hiding, I’ve looked everywhereI’m forever blowing bubbles, pretty bubbles in the air
MAYBE IT’S BECAUSE I’M A LONDONER
Maybe it’s because I’m a LondonerThat I love London so
Maybe it’s because I’m a LondonerThat I think of her wherever I go
I get a funny feeling inside of meJust walking up and down
Maybe it’s because I’m a LondonerThat I love London Town

NEW YORK, NEW YORK
Start spreading the news, I’m leaving todayI want to be a part of it - New York, New YorkThese vagabond shoes, are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it - New York, New York
I wanna wake up in a city, that doesn’t sleepAnd find I’m king of the hill - top of the heap
These little town blues, are melting awayI’ll make a brand new start of it - in old New York
If I can make it there, I’ll make it anywhereIt’s up to you - New York, New York
New York, New York
I want to wake up in a city that never sleeps
And find I’m a number-one, top of the list, king of the hillA number one
These little town blues, are melting awayI’m gonna make a brand new start of it -in old New YorkAnd if I can make it there, I’m gonna make it anywhere
It’s up to you - New York, New York
YOU’VE LOST (THAT LOVIN’ FEELIN’)
You never close your eyes any more when I kiss your lipsAnd there’s no tenderness like before in your fingertips
You’re trying hard not to show it, babyBut baby, baby I know it
You’ve lost that lovin’ feelin’ Oh, that lovin’ feelin’You’ve lost that lovin’ feelin’ Now it’s gone, gone, gone woah!
DAYDREAM BELIEVER
Well I could hide ‘neath the wings of the bluebird as she singsThe six o’clock alarm never rings
But it rings and I rise, wipe the sleep out of my eyesThe shaving razor’s cold, and it stings
Cheer up, sleepy Jean, oh what can it mean to a Daydream Believer and a Homecoming Queen
Cheer up, sleepy Jean, oh what can it mean to a Daydream Believer and a Homecoming Queen

HEY JUDE
Hey Jude, don’t make it badTake a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her into your heartThen you can start to make it better
And anytime you feel the pain, hey Jude, refrainDon’t carry the world upon your shoulders
For well you know that it’s a fool who plays it coolBy making his world a little colder
Na, na, na, nana na na, nana na na, Hey Jude

DELILAH
I saw the light on the night that I passed by her windowI saw the flickering shadows of love on her blind
She was my womanAs she deceived me I watched and went out of my mind
My, my, my, DelilahWhy, why, why, Delilah
I could see that girl was no good for meBut I was lost like a slave that no man could free
At break of day when that man drove away, I was waitingI cross the street to her house and she opened the door
She stood there laughingI felt the knife in my hand and she laughed no more
My, my, my DelilahWhy, why, why Delilah
So before they come to break down the doorForgive me Delilah I just couldn’t take any moreForgive me Delilah I just couldn’t take any more!

ANGELS
I sit and waitDoes an angel contemplate my fate?
And do they knowThe places where we goWhen we’re grey and old‘cause I have been told
That salvation lets their wings unfoldSo when I’m lying in my bed
Thoughts running through my headAnd I feel that love is deadI’m loving angels instead
And through it all she offers me protectionA lot of love and affection
Whether I’m right or wrongAnd down the waterfall
Wherever it may take meI know that life won’t break me
When I come to call she won’t forsake meI’m loving angels instead
12
MY WAY
And now, the end is nearAnd so I face the final curtain
My friends, I’ll say it clearI’ll state my case, of which I’m certain
I’ve lived a life that’s fullI’ve travelled each and every highway
And more, much more than thisI did it my way
Yes, there were the times, I’m sure you knewWhen I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubtI ate it up and spit it out!
I faced it all, and I stood tallAnd did it my way!

TAKE ME HOME, COUNTRY ROADS
Almost heaven, West VirginiaBlue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
Life is old there, older than the treesYounger than the mountains
Blowing like a breeze
Country Roads, take me homeTo the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mamaTake me home, country roads
Country Roads, take me homeTo the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mamaTake me home, country roads

CAN’T TAKE MY EYES OFF YOU
You’re just too good to be trueCan’t take my eyes off you
You’d be like heaven to touchI wanna hold you so much
At long last love has arrivedAnd I thank God I’m still alive
You’re just too good to be trueCan’t take my eyes off you
I love you baby, and if it’s quite alrightI need you baby, to warm the lonely night
I love you baby, trust in me when I sayOh pretty baby, don’t bring me down I prayOh pretty baby, now that I’ve found you stay
And let me love you baby, let me love you

SWEET CAROLINE
Where it began,I can’t begin to knowin’
But then I know it’s growing strong
Was in the springAnd spring became the summer
Who’d have believed you’d come along
Hands, touchin’ handsReachin’ out, touchin’ me, touchin’ you
Sweet CarolineGood times never seemed so good
I’ve been inclinedTo believe they never would
Sweet CarolineGood times never seemed so good
I’ve been inclinedTo believe they never would
16
YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE
When you walk through a storm Hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the darkAt the end of the storm
There’s a golden skyAnd the sweet silver song of a lark
Walk on through the windWalk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart, andYou’ll Never Walk Alone, You’ll Never Walk Alone
17
SWING LOW, SWEET CHARIOT
Swing low, sweet chariotComin’ for to carry me home
Swing low, sweet chariotComin’ for to carry me home
I looked over Jordan and what did I see?Comin’ for to carry me home
A band of angels, a comin’ after meComin’ for to carry me home
Swing low, sweet chariotComin’ for to carry me home
Swing low, sweet chariotComin’ for to carry me home

WE’LL MEET AGAIN
We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know whenBut I know we’ll meet again some sunny dayKeep smilin’ through, just like you always do
‘Til the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away
So will you please say hello to the folks that I knowTell them I won’t be long
They’ll be happy to know that as you saw me goI was singing this song:
We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know whenBut I know we’ll meet again some sunny day
19
AULD LANG SYNE
Should auld acquaintance be forgotAnd never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgotAnd auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dearFor auld lang syne
We’ll take a cup o’ kindness yetFor auld lang syne
RULE BRITANNIA
When Britain first at heaven’s commandAro-o-o-ose from out the azure main
Arose, arose, aro-o-o-ose from out the azure mainThis was the charter of the land
And Guardian Angels sang this strain
Rule, Britannia, Britannia rule the wavesBritons never, never, never shall be slavesRule, Britannia, Britannia rule the waves
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves!
20
JERUSALEM
And did those feet in ancient timeWalk upon England’s mountain green?
And was the holy Lamb of GodOn England’s pleasant pastures seen?
And did the Countenance DivineShine forth upon our clouded hills? And was Jerusalem builded hereAmong those dark Satanic Mills?
Bring me my bow of burning gold!Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold!Bring me my chariot of fire!
I will not cease from mental fightNor shall my sword sleep in my hand
‘Til we have built JerusalemIn England’s green and pleasant land

LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY
Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the FreeHow shall we extol thee, who are born of thee?
Wider still, and wider, shall thy bounds be setGod, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yetGod, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet
