Outcomes & Experiences of Participants Student Of The Year Awards - 2016
We understand that students vary in their abilities, interests, skills, and talents. We believe that every child has a special story and a unique path to success. We feel that each student needs a nurturing and caring environment to bloom to their full potential.
We recognize that overemphasis on grades, test scores, and rote learning will not prepare students for success in the rapidly changing world. We hold that in order to be successful in the new economy, our children need to inculcate the ability to be independent, adaptable, ethical, and engaged critical thinkers.
The Student Of The Year Awards was instituted to motivate students to explore themselves and create their unique story. The students selected for the 2016 Awards represented a wide diversity of backgrounds, aspirations and achievements. Among the winners were authors, singers, poets, entrepreneurs, tech-innovators, world record holders, opinion leaders, Olympiad participants, school toppers and other superlative performers.
The Student Of The Year Awards is not just for winners. Winning the Award is not everything - participation matters. The process followed in identifying winners force students to introspect about themselves and reflect on their unique qualities. As a result, after completing the process for the Awards, students are more confident about themselves and experience increased connectedness with their dreams and goals. Therefore, everyone who participates in the process for The Awards is a winner.
I had a wonderful experience throughout this competition. The whole process helped me realize my potential and what I could do more. It has opened my eyes to opportunities not just in India, but globally.

How Student Of The Year Awards Helped Souvik Secure an Admission in IIIT, Hyderabad
Souvik Banerjee – National Award 2016, 2nd Runners-up
Admitted to Dual Degree program in Computer Science & Computational Linguistics by Research
at IIIT, Hyderabad in 2017
Participation in the Student Of The Year Awards – 2016 proved to be quite a morale booster and performance
evaluator for me. It was also a helpful platform for my next set of competitive exams.
Completing the application process for the Award
was a big boost for my IIIT, Hyderabad interview and ultimate selection.
Firstly, the participation certificate helped to boost my score for extra curricular activities.
Secondly, writing the essays for the Award forced me to introspect and to know myself – my motivations, my
aspirations, my career goals and my general outlook to life. In the written exam of IIIT, I had to write an essay
about my leisure time and hobbies. I found it easy to write the essay – all I had to do was recall my working during
the Award process and make some changes. Within 10 minutes I wrote an essay which genuinely satisfied me.
Thirdly, the interview process of the Award also prepared me psychologically for the IIIT interview. The questions
asked at the IIIT interview were a bit different from the Awards interview. However, the Award interview was
a great platform that prepared me to speak with confidence, face my evaluators and project a confident body
language.
Overall, my participation in the Awards process helped me gain confidence about my abilities. I recommend every
student to grab this opportunity and experience INNER ENGINEERING by participating in future editions of
the Student Of The Year Awards.
I thank Global SOTY Foundation for having conceived this wonderful Award for students.

The inaugural Student Of The Year Awards ceremony was held at
PHD House, New Delhi on 12th May, 2017. The auditorium was packed
with students, parents and school heads in attendance. More than 200
students and around 25 dignitaries graced the occasion. The event started
with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by a few of the school principals who
were present at the Awards.
Prof. Debashis Chatterjee was the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker at the Awards. Prof. Chatterjee is a Visiting
Fulbright Professor at Harvard University and held the distinction of being the youngest Director at any Indian Institute of
Management (IIM), when he was appointed Director of IIM - Kozhikode.
Prof. Chatterjee spoke animatedly about his latest best-selling book “Invincible Arjuna”.
According to Prof. Chatterjee, he adores Arjuna because “he conquered his enemies with
the sword of clarity and the shield of discrimination.” Prof. Chatterjee led
a lively two-way discussion with the
audience on the nine lessons from the
Mahabharat that would be of help in
effective action — from doing daily
chores to harnessing desires.
The Felicitation Ceremony Student Of The Year Awards - 2016
This was followed by the Felicitation of Award Winners, teachers and mentors. The
winners of National Awards received their Plaques from Mr. Ram Lubhaya Trikha,
Ex. Chairman-cum-Managing Director MECON Limited. The City Award Winners
received their medals from the teachers present. The principals, teachers and mentors
from the schools were also honoured with a token of appreciation
