The Presidio San Agustín del Tucson location is the interpretive center on the site of Tucson’s original adobe-walled presidio. The flags used in this event serve as historical symbols and as an acknowledgment of all of the sovereignties that have claimed this many-storied region as their own, from Tucson’s very origins to Arizona Statehood in the United States of America. The Tucson-Pima County Historical Commission has sponsored this annual event since the 1970s. Partners in this year’s event include the City of Tucson (including the Parks and Recreation Department and the City Clerk’s Office), Pima County, the Tucson Presidio Trust for Historic Preservation, Los Descendientes del Presidio de Tucson, and the El Presidio Neighborhood Association. La Cocina Restaurant, just down the street from the presidio, is offering a special discount for those who attend the event.
