May we draw on the power and grace of our baptism, so that this year is a year of service and love toward others. Remembering our baptism, we are reminded that we have been named and claimed in the waters of baptism by Christ our Lord. He nurtures us with His Holy Word. He feeds us with his body and blood, bread and wine. After we have been fed, empowered by His Spirit, we are sent out into the world to be the epiphany of Jesus to others. Words from your Pastor

Happy New Year, everyone. In January, we enter into the season of Epiphany.

Epiphany means “manifestation” or “appearance”. How has Christ appeared to

you this past year? How have you revealed the Light of Christ to others this past

year? As we journey into 2015, look for the ways Christ appears to you in the

day to day and you will be able to see how 2015 will be a year filled with

blessings.

This month we celebrate the Baptism of our Lord. When Jesus was baptized,

something new happened. Baptisms were changed forever. Now, whenever one

is baptized in the name of the Trinity, they are baptized with the power, grace,

and presence of the Triune God. Like the Israelites who went through the Red

Sea, we pass through the waters of baptism, stripping away our bondage (of sin

and death and the devil) and come out on the other side to new life.

Baptism is a second birth, a new grace-filled beginning in our lives. In 2015, we

begin another year of new possibilities, new beginnings. May we draw on the

power and grace of our baptism, so that this year is a year of service and love

toward others. Remembering our baptism, we are reminded that we have been

named and claimed in the waters of baptism by Christ our Lord. He nurtures us

with His Holy Word. He feeds us with his body and blood, bread and wine.

After we have been fed, empowered by His Spirit, we are sent out into the world

to be the epiphany of Jesus to others. I look forward to a Spirit-fed and Spirit-

led New Year filled with new ways to live and love as Christ’s followers, God’s

children.

Christ’s Peace,

Pastor Keith

New Request of Information for our Newsletter Our children are members of our Church as well and they should be praised for their achievements. We are interested in reporting information from the preschool age up to college age. Achievements can include good grades in school such as Honor Roll or Dean’s list, sports, art contests, music, clubs and organizations such as Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, etc. We would also like to hear about community based projects that your child may be involved in. Please send all accomplishments to Shelley Crawshaw by e-mail. She will be handling the updates each month to have it included in the newsletter. When you are providing the information to Shelley, please include the full name of the child along with the name of the church member that they are related to. Then, briefly state the child’s accomplishment and also include the name of the school or organization. Please have the information submitted to Shelley by the 15th of every month so that it can be included in the newsletter of the following month. If needed, information can be provided to Stephanie in the church office by phone. Shelley’s email address is: [email protected]

On Sunday, July 13, 2014 the American Red Cross, Immanuel Lutheran Church, and St. James Lutheran Church coordinated a successful blood drive that exceeded the goal. The blood drive was held in our fellowship hall from 11:30 to 4:30 after church. A light lunch was available during the event. The Red Cross supplied snacks and drinks. St. James Boy Scout Troop #305 donated blood and assisted during the event. The committees from the two churches shared the work to assist the Red Cross. Committee members from St. James are Joyce Diehl, Jane Hart, Gary Harbath, Tony Myers, Ann Reynolds and Dot Weishuhn. The next blood drive is scheduled for January 18th. Be ready to participate by donating blood or supporting with the light lunch menu. Contact Dot Weishuhn if you are interested in providing a lunch item.

ST. JAMES LUTHERAN CHURCH MISSION STATEMENT

Called by God, centered in the Word and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we rejoice in the Lord, proclaim His

gift of Grace through liturgical worship and service and share Christ’s love and forgiveness in all we do.

Page 7: TThhhee MMeessssseeennngggeeerrr:: a JJJaannnuuuaaarrryyy ... · 2nd James Lee 7th Susan Chandler & Jane Hart 10th Judy Jeney 13th Pastor Keith 16th Riley Keisler 18th Kim Oliver

The holidays are over and the New Year has begun. We hope everyone had a very joyous and fun-filled holiday break. Thank you all for providing for our families in need this past Christmas. I wish I could convey in words the expressions of gratitude that our families had on their faces when the gifts were dropped off. Tears of Joy and appreciation ran down their faces. Thank you for giving so generously! School is closed from Friday, January 16th through Monday, January 19th for teacher in-service days and to honor Martin Luther King Jr. This is a four-day weekend! Students will return to school on Tuesday, January 20th at regular time. The After School Enrichment Program will be open on Friday, January 16th, and January 19th. The price is $20/day or $5/hr. Reserve your slot today by turning in the forms sent home or by calling the school office. January 28th is Chick-Fil-A Spirit Night. Head on out to the Broad Street location from 5pm – 8pm, enjoy dinner, and fellowship and place your receipt in the SJLS box. We appreciate everyone who participates! Thank you! Our annual Book Fair will be February 2nd-6th. This is a great place to get fantastic gifts or just add to your child’s home library. Mrs. Tucker will be looking for volunteers to work the Book Fair. Please let her know if you are able to help out.
