December 2019 and January 2020
Come Home For Christmas!
Can you believe it? It was just Thanksgiving Day, and now it’s December?
This year seems to have flown by and once again we are preparing to make room in the Inn, to welcome and
celebrate the birth of our Lord.
So often during this season, we are bombarded with advertisements, TV shows and movies trying to tell us what
Christmas is really supposed to be about. It used to be the media blitz didn’t start till Thanksgiving Day and Black
Friday, but now it seems to start a day into November and it doesn’t let up till New Year’s rolls around. Between
Rudolph and Scrooge, a drummer boy and some baby in a barn, it’s almost too much information to keep straight.
For most of what you hear this Christmas season, I would just like to say: “Check the source!”
Soon Christmas will be here, but what does it mean to you? Does it mean a time of family, friends, and feasting?
Does it mean a time of reunion, a time when Christmas greetings and presents renew fellowship with old friends
far and near? Does it mean a pleasant break in the middle of winter? Does it mean a time of giving gifts, of
children's laughter and shining eyes, and a time of singing carols? Sadly, for some, this high holiday season can be
a difficult time.
This year we are going directly to the source to find out what it’s all about. We’re going to re-visit all the familiar
stories from the Bible:
Dec. 1 Mary
Dec. 8 Elizabeth
Dec. 15 Joseph
Dec. 22 Adult Christmas Program
March to Bethlehem
Dec. 24 (Tues, 7 pm) Jesus
Dec. 29 Magi
Come Home For Christmas this month as we hear the “Story of Christmas” all over again to learn the true
meaning of Christmas!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…
Well… almost. Did you know that the two times when unchurched people are most likely to attend worship are Easter and Christmas? That probably comes as no surprise. So, I had a thought: Why not make the month of December a time to focus on the unchurched?
Let’s plan our worship services so that unchurched people will feel welcome.
Let’s pray that God will open their hearts to give church a try.
Let’s invite those that God has placed on our hearts whether they be family, friend, or neighbor.
We are calling the month of December “Come Home for Christmas!” Isn’t it time to call them home? Bradley Memorial UMC, let’s get our house in order to welcome them home!
To get into the Christmas spirit, we’ll be re-visiting all the familiar stories from the Bible with Mary, Elizabeth, Joseph, Baby Jesus and the Magi.

Children's Musical Sunday, December 15th 4:00 p.m.
Our children will join with the grades 3-5 grade chorus from Costner Elementary to present "Christmas Shop Around the Corner."
“Christmas Shop Around the Corner” is a wonderful story displaying the joy of giving at Christmastime. The children of First Church are caroling in front of Stone’s Department Store much to the chagrin of Mr. Stone who has no heart for Christmas due to the recent passing of his wife. The choir, assisted by two colorful mall cops, open a “Christmas Shop Around the Corner” where they sell donated items to raise money for a choir member, Emily, who's family lost their home in a fire. Emily knew Mr. Stone’s wife and is able to rekindle his broken Christmas Spirit by sharing memories with him of his wife and her love of God. Mr. Stone’s heart is softened and much to the amazement of everyone, his Christmas Spirit is renewed.
After the musical, join us outside on the front lawn for the Live Nativity beginning at 5:45 p.m.
ADULT MUSICAL Sunday, December 22nd during 11:00 a.m. Worship

Dear Church Family,
Thank you for the cards and memorials that we
have received from you since Ken passed away.
Your kindness means so much. Ledford Family
Russ & Joyce Clark were responsible for my
coming to Bradley Memorial. From the day I
walked through those doors I have loved being here.
I will always remember the love of all of you.
Thank you for helping me grow closer to God. How
kind you have been to me during my declining
health. Not only Joyce Clark, Betty Ballard &
Emily Styers but thank all of you that have sent
cards, prayers and food my way. Even though I’m
moving to the other side of the state, you will
always be in my heart. Ann Pappas
Bradley Church Family and Friends,
We could never begin to thank you all for the love
and care our family has received during mom’s
illness and death. You are blessed with a wonderful
staff, Pastor David, Dana, Kim and Ashley. They
were all so caring and loving as we tried to navigate
the completely unbelievable situation, we found
ourselves in.
But to you the members, we are also greatly
indebted. We would have not made it through
without your prayers. We were surrounded by love
and we felt it in full measure. The food, calls, cards
and visits got us through the most difficult days of
our lives. We pray now that God will pour out his
blessings on this congregation as you have done so
for us.
Bradley was mom’s “happy place” and you all
were her loved ones. We will be forever grateful
that she was surrounded by so much love all the
days of her life!
John, Sam, Kim and Families

Fourth graders shared poems, short stories and essays during the
annual Poetry and Prose celebration held Thursday, November 14
at the Schiele Museum.
Two students from each school were invited to read their winning
entries and have them published in a countywide literary magazine
sponsored by the GCS Academically & Intellectually Gifted (AIG)
department.

Phases of the Moon
The Moon is a sphere, big, white and bright.
It loves to reflect the sun’s bright light.
Sometimes it is round like a silver ball.
Sometimes you don’t see it at all.
Sometimes it is just half its size and other times it is
a crescent shape like a smile.
Sometimes it surprises you and hides for a while.
Each night you can look up and see a different
shape and amount of light.
What surprise waits tonight?
