Dumb Questions we all get (From the Corvette Forum)

• While showing a somewhat naive friend of mine my car, he looks inside and says, ‘It just has two seats, huh?’”

• “Is that a 2015?”...a close runner up; “is that a Z06?”

• A guy who genuinely asked about what a ‘66 cost... What do they go for, 10 grand?

• Is that the new Viper?

• Is that the new Corvette/Stingray? What year is it?

• Are ya glad you got that Ferrari instead of the new Corvette?

• Why did you buy that, are you having a mid-life crisis???

• How much did it cost you.....$25K....$27K???

• Why would you spend that much on a toy, that’s crazy.

• Is that car really fast?

• Do you like it better than your old Corvette?

• Can it go `round a corner?

CCT Club Meeting Minutes May 16, 2014

The meeting was called to order by Ken Bradley at 7:30 pm

Many members were absent but already at the Mineral Wells autocross location

A headcount was taken of those who planned to attend dinner

No Treasurer’s report was given

17 members present, No visitors but one drop-in guest who left some Corvette memorabilia for our club.

The minutes from the previous meeting were approved and seconded

A special thank you to Sandy for organizing our last breakfast at The Other Broken Egg

No old business

Reminder of breakfast on 5/24

All members shared car stories about «fi rst» Corvette:

Raffl e tickets were drawn for prizes

The meeting adjourned and we went to Texas Land and Cattle

by Debbie Garrison for Donna Snyder

Attendees at the last CCT Brunch at the Fillmore Pub in downtown Plano. Good food and a good place for conversation. But the service was slow and distant (we had to set up our own tables when we got there) and the place was COLD, even after we convinced them to shut off the fans that were going full speed. Some went back to their cars to get jackets.

The Corvetter June 20141962 Corvettes (Submitted by Paul Wolter).

Since I am doing a body-off restoration on our 1962 Corvette I also follow our neighbors’ Bruce and Deb Allen’s Corvette projects they are always working on. I was instrumental in Bruce & Deb’s purchase of a project 1962 Corvette that they purchased on ebay in 2009. I had sent Bruce the ebay posting, and then Deb came by to inform us after the ebay purchase that she was going to block future emails from me.

The car was being professionally restored by a restoration shop to NCRS specifi cations and the owner had decided he had spent way too much money (approximately $75K) and wanted to fi nish the NCRS level restoration himself. After no further activity on his part, he decided to post it on ebay for sale so he could then purchase a yellow 67 Corvette locally that he knew about.

When Bruce and Deb purchased the black 62 Vette it was approximately 75% fi nished. The windshield needed installing, bumpers needed rechroming, the interior and seat belts needed to be purchased, a new aluminum radiator was needed, the carpet & interior components needed to be installed, correct rims & hubcaps needed to be bought, and a lot of other miscellaneous items needed attention.

Bruce completed the restoration in less than 6 months, while also completing a body-off restoration of their 66 Corvette 427 big block convertible. After completing the restorations of the 62 and 66 Corvettes he purchased another 62 Corvette on ebay and turned it into a resto-mod performing a lot of the work himself. The resto-mod has a custom frame, differential, modifi ed 427 Corvette engine with an external sump, selectable exhaust system, custom

The Corvetter June 2014interior, carbon fi ber bumpers containing integrated turn signals, C6 Corvette rear panel under the rear bumpers, deleted roll-up windows, deleted all exterior emblems, deleted the rocker panels, custom windshield and frame, a custom grille and carbon fi ber grille surround, grand sport wheels, special high performance brakes, modifi ed analog gauges, and a whole lot more modifi cations. To appreciate the resto-mod modifi cations it’s best to park the original and resto-mod corvettes side by side and it’s then easy to see and appreciate the custom changes. The car also contains a built-in GPS and air conditioning! I would venture a guess that their 62 Corvette resto-mod could be worth more than their beautiful home with a swimming pool and a 6 car garage! Both cars are absolutely like new.

The Corvetter June 2014Governors Report (By Paul Wolter).I hope that everyone had a wonderful and relaxing Memorial Day holiday and will be looking forward to participating in the annual 4th of July neighborhood parade in Westcliff Village. There are a lot of interesting entrants in the parade, and the homeowners and their guests are always appreciative. See the fl ier in this newsletter for information about the parade.

2014 CCT Autocross Event. Our annual CCT & CTV autocross event was successfully conducted on May 17th and 18th at the Mineral Wells airport. CCT only had 19 racers this year (as compared to 32 last year), which was down due to high school graduations, the annual Lone Star CC weekend at TMS and some of the racers getting out of racing. CTV hosted 7 NCCC autocrosses on Saturday for only 25 racers, and we hosted our 7 NCCC CCT autocrosses on Sunday morning. Entrant check-in, race car teching, corner worker and driver’s meetings were at the track both mornings beginning at 7:30 AM each day. Mesquite pit BBQ lunches were served again for both racers and workers at the track on Saturday. The weather cooperated, with Saturday being sunny and Sunday being partially overcast and windy which kept the temperature down to a more comfortable level.

I want to thank all the CCT members who came out to work our annual 2014 event again this year. We can only be successful when we have members who pitch in and help in the various areas. I also want to thank Joann Powdrill for coordinating and making available the snacks and coffee for the racers and workers on Sunday that were on a table in the timing workarea.

Many thanks to CTV members Candy Beck for being our key timing person again this year, working with Moe Wheeler and CCT member Darlee Kee, and to CTV for allowing CCT to use their timing system again for our autocrosses. I want to thank our starter Mitch Factor and CTV member Scott Wheeler, who working with CCT weekend coordinators Marvin & Donna Snyder and timing Candy Beck, successfully staged and released the race cars enabling the CCT autocrosses to be completed at 1:00 PM. We also appreciate the highly dedicated help from CTV members Doug & Glenda McMahan (CTV governor), Rick Watson (CTV’s weekend coordinator) and many of the other racers and spouses who helped setting up the road course during the weekend. Everyone had an enjoyable weekend racing and socializing!

After Sunday’s autocross all CCT workers and attendees were treated to delicious dinners at the Mineral Wells Chili’s restaurant complements of Michael & Deborah Garrison and Chili’s Restaurants. Many thanks to Michael & Deborah and Chili’s for arranging this wonderful event for our CCT members!

Autocrossing takes a break during the traditional July & August hot months, when it’s way too hot to play outside on an asphalt or concrete surface in 100-degree heat. But, wasn’t it nice to get some rain and cooler night time temperatures in May.

The next SWR governor’s meeting will be held 8 PM Saturday evening September 20th at the Ft. Worth Hampton Inn & Suites in conjunction with CTV’s 12 low speed autocross weekend at TMS on September 20 – 21. First Choice Weekend Proposals for 2014 will be accepted at the September governor’s meeting, and for the 2013 Awards Banquet that will held in 2014.

CTV’s autocross held in the infi eld at TMS is their 18th autocross to be conducted at TMS. This event is limited to the fi rst 80 participants to register. Come out and watch the racers drive the infi eld road course and socialize with the racers in the NASCAR Cup garage. There is no charge to drive and park in the TMS infi eld parking area.
