After six months of patiently waiting, thetime has come to take office as the District 3Supervisor. Ive done everything I could toprepare myself for the immense responsibili-ties that a Supervisor holds. Now, it is time toget to work!I have learned about the structure of countygovernment, the dynamics of politics, the artof balance, the sacrifice of public service, thefrustrations of bureaucracy, the value of rela-tionships, the beauty of community, the depthof our history and our obligation to the future. Ivesought out advice, mentors, and information to helpprepare myself for the challenges ahead. The singlemost resonant thing I heard over and over was to holdon tight to my principles and values. This seemedobvious, but I now realize how critical it is and howoften it is forgotten.

So, the preparation is behind me and the real chal-lenges begin. I am thrilled to have this opportunityand look forward to representing the people of District3. Id like to thank my family and friends for theirlove and support. I ask that you all participate andstay informed. We can accomplish great things to-

School just finished up what was surelyits most successful Childrens Christ-mas Shop fundraiser ever! Thanks to aclever idea, two generous donors, hardwork on the part of parents, and a gen-erous couple from the community, wewere able to raffle off a 1977 VWcamper bus to a profit of $10,000.It happened this way: Birgit Pfeffer, amom at the school donated her bus tothe school. A father at the school, JoelFranz, suggested raffling off the bus,and he and his wife Paula spent manyhours over the year driving the bus fromevent to event selling tickets, in additionto providing necessary maintenance. Atour Christmas Shop event on December4, one of the children pulled the win-ning ticket, David Bruckmann fromPalo Alto. David generously decided todonate the bus back to the school. Next,Joel called Ken Bauer from Mariposawho had told Joel that he would be will-ing to buy the bus from the winner for$5,000. Ken said hed take it! The fol-lowing Monday, Ken and his wife Patcame to our school with a cashierscheck for $5,000 and drove the busaway. Theyre planning on painting thesides with daisies and peace symbolsand driving the bus to Alaska! Bon Voy-age, Ken and Pat!

It was a win-win-win for all in-volved! Thanks to the hard work of

ALL the parents at the school, we wereable to earn an additional $5,000 on raf-fle baskets, bake sale, used book sale, silent auction, and sale of crafts. Thanks to all from the community whohelped support us during this big event! It looks like, due to our success, we willbe able to keep our doors open at leastone more year!

Well keep you posted on upcomingspring events!

If you have any questions or are in-terested in joining our school, pleasecall us at 928-4288!

other, we chose an event which willpay tribute all veterans in celebration ofWHVVD.

The World War II memorial pres-ents displays of photographs and infor-mation to pay specific tribute to WWII

veterans. The Korean War tribute is apictorial display of the men who foughtthe Forgotten War along with battlemaps and the war timeline. In additionto the Traveling Wall, Vietnam Remem-bered is a nationally acclaimed art dis-play of original paintings and more forreflection by visitors and veterans. The911 Memorial includes stand-up ex-hibits with lighted twin towers to ensurewe never forget. Each name isrecorded according to their location atthe time of the tragedy. The Walk of He-roes is a series of stand-ups which pay

tribute and provide education regardingour countrys history, as well as con-flicts in which America was involved toensure our freedom. Freedom did notcome free and this tribute represents thetrue cost as paid in lives. The Cost ofFreedom Memorial is another series ofstand-ups created in gold dog tagsrecording the names of those who gavetheir lives for our freedom since Viet-nam and including present-day Endur-ing Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

Also at the Tribute is a TributePanel where anyone can purchase a cus-

tom engraved dog tag. This is a tributewith a personal message to a loved one, past or present. This Tribute travels thenation with all other exhibits.

All area schools will be invited tovisit the Traveling Wall on Thursdayand Friday.

On Friday at 1 p.m., there will awelcome ceremony. According to DickSouthern, co-chair of the event commit-tee, Were inviting Governor JerryBrown to speak along with the Califor-nia Veterans Affairs Acting SecretaryRocky J. Chavez and Assemblyman

Paul Cook (R-Yucca Valley) and Viet-nam veteran, who put up the bill mak-ing March 30 WHVVD. We will alsohave the Board of Supervisors for bothTuolumne and Calaveras countiesalong with members of the City Councilof Sonora. Keynote speakers will beMedal of Honor recipients includingJon Caviaiani of Sonora, and DennisCroucher, the Vice-President of theVVA California State Council. Therewill be a reading of names of Tuolumneand Calaveras names on the wall and

then a total of the 5,880 Californianames on the wall. This will berecorded by members of VVA Chapter391 members and played for the re-maining three days of the event.

In addition to paying tribute to allmen and women who didnt return, ac-cording to AVTT spokesperson LeahGallagher, the mission of the project is

to travel the nation to honor, respect, and remember men and women whoserved, and to pay specific tribute tothose who gave all in that service. Sincethe tribute is mobile, it allows people tohonor and respect veterans and activemilitary personnel without their havingto travel long distances.

Across its 370-foot length, theTraveling Wall contains every singlename etched on the original. Computerswill be available to locate any individ-uals name. AVTTs Traveling Wall isnot to be confused with other replica

walls (The Moving Wall, The DignityWall, The Wall That Heals). We are allon a mutual mission, says Gallagher.

Also at the event a concert-dinneris being planned along with a local Viet-nam Veterans Art Show. There will besome vendors with food and drinks.Several veterans organizations willhave information tables available. TheVVA-Chapter 391 is developing a sou-venir t-shirt and three Medal of Honorrecipients will be offering autographson the shirts for a donation. A portionof the money raised goes to the Medal
