The diagramm below shows the

EMC design of miracel racks.

EMC shielding is provided by asecond metal case inside the

powder-coated covers.

The reliable, long-life contact

between the covers and the basicrack is guaranteed by a stainless-

steel spring, developed andpatented by Knürr.

The EMC spring permits covers

to be opened and closed ergono-mically with application of mini-

mum closing force while maintai-ning an enduring and reliablecontact.

The ideal combination of materi-

als in EMC through panls, EMCspring and basic rack with lowpotential differences guarantees

long life for contact points.

Extern IP seals also protect the

stainless-steel springs against

aggressive environmental condi-tions.

EMC Measurements were carriedout by the army’s Bundeswehr

university, Institute for Electron-ics (Prof. Dr. Schmeer), at

Munich, in a shielded anechoicchamber.

Easy filter change while

operating: Fresh air from outsideincreases the cooling perform-ance. A built-in filter mat therebyprotects your components fromcontamination.The filter mat is changed at thefront – this can be done while theunit is operating.The front panel is removed withquick-release fasteners.Downtimes are consequentlyavoided.

The airmatic 19” tangential fanis the ideal ventilation insert formodular chassis’ with printed cir-cuit boards in Eurocard format.A uniform cooling of the electro-nics is guaranteed with an evenlydistributed airflow over the entirewidth of the unit. The airflowmonitoring signals dirt build-upon the filter mat and fan failure ingood time, and consequently pro-tects the installations fromoverheating.

With increased requirements withregard to IP protection (water/dust)and very high power loss of the elec-tronics, heat exchangers and cool-ling equipment are utilised.

5Heat transfer by ventilation (forcedconvection) is a very effectivemethod.19” Fan units provide forced air flowthrough the enclosure.Hot spots are targetted and elimina-ted with single fans and fan frontpanels.Fan installation sets and stackablefans can also be integrated later on.

The specialised ventilation sys-tem of the dart fan unit providesuniform through flow for all elec-tronics that require cooling.Marginal areas are also cooled inthe process. Conventional posi-tioning of axial fans is known tocause numerous unventilatedareas.

No heat build-up under the fan:With modular chassis’ that liebelow the fan, the specialiseddesign of the 2 HU fan unit ena-bles air dissipation to the rear.

Automatic regulation of the ven-tilation with temperature sensor.By adapting to the actual require-ments, the fans attain longer life-spans and lower noise levels.

The 19” filter insert provides fil-tered air and thereby preventscontamination of your internalcomponents.

The power system

Consists of the following individualcomponents:- 1 to 5 (6 with 1200 W) piece of

200 W, 750 W or 1200 W rectifiermodules- Charge monitor module- Backplane for mounting theindividual modules- 19” Modular chassis

Various freely-selectable combina-tion options can be designed withthe modular concept.The integrated charge controllermonitors the batteries in the UPSoperation and ensures optimal bat-tery charging.Using connected sensors anddepending on the requirements, itadditionally monitors the environ-mental conditions in the rack as wellas monitoring the power modulesand controlling battery tests.If an uninterruptible power supplyfunctionality is not required, thepower supply can also be operatedwithout batteries and chargecontroller.Depending on the number of PSUmodules, output power of up to1000 W, 3750 W or 7200 W, can berealized in each 200, 750 or 1200 Wstage.With output of up to 600 W or

2250 W (3 modules), a DC distributorcan be integrated in the modular

Until now, system monitoring options were limited to active components.Now, with SNMP management systems, parameters such as data emer-gence, error rate, equipment configuration and, of course, downtime ofindividual connections or hardware components are all monitored. But thecauses for such downtimes remain for the most part unclear, and are onlyfirst realised on-site, i.e. in the server or network rack or cabinet.Observance of the required environmental parameters is, however, ofenormous importance for the fault-free operation of high-grade compo-nents. Inadmissible fluctuations in temperature, humidity or power supplyare frequently the cause of hardware defects, therefore constant automaticmonitoring is a fundamental requirement for securing operational functio-nality. With the rack monitoring systems available on the market today,these parameters and other factors can be recorded, and can often bepassed directly on to a superordinate management system. However,recording of conditions alone is often not enough to combat damage as thetime from occurance of a critical condition to initiation of combatative mea-sures, particularly with larger network environments, is often quite limited.In such cases it is extremely helpful if the monitoring system can automati-cally implement constructive measures (e. g. additional active fans). Whensuch incidents occur, the equipment should at least be able to immediatelysend a report (trap) to the management system, which for example, willthen notify those responsible for the network via e-mail or pager. Thisenables a sufficiently short reaction time and a swift location of the faultlocation and its subsequent elimination.With the option of connecting additional sensors like smoke detectors, doorcontacts etc., not only enclosures but entire rooms or building sections canbe monitored. In this way all environmental parameters of a computer cent-re can be easily recorded and evaluated.
