Trusting in God, We Share Christ’s Love by Action,

Witness and Glorifying the Lord by Our Lives.

Why Do We Do That?-Catholic Life Explained

Question:

I've heard that faith is a theological virtue. What does that

mean?

Answer:

To say a virtue is theological means that it comes as a gift

from God. St. Thomas Aquinas, a Dominican monk who

crafted the famous arguments for the existence of God,

wrote: "This alone is the true knowledge of God: to know

that God is beyond knowing." God is transcendent. This

word comes from the Latin "transcendere," meaning "to

climb beyond." When something is transcendent, it exists

beyond our normal range of experience. Philosopher

Peter Kreeft put it simply: "God is always more."

While God created us in His image and likeness, too often

we re-create Him in ours. We project our deepest hopes,

our subliminal fears, and our hidden dreams, and conjure

up our own image of what God could be. Yet God can

never be limited to our own perception of Him.

That's where faith comes in. We read in the Catechism

that "faith is the theological virtue by which we believe in

God and believe all that He has said and revealed to us

and all that the Holy Church proposes for our belief" (CCC

1814). We can know God through reason, to a point. As

human beings, we want to know and understand the

world around us, but God isn't in the world around us.

He's beyond it. The best way to come to know God is not

through our own clever mental maneuvering, but through

trusting in God's revelation of Himself. We might think we

know who God is, but the only way we can have any idea

is if we trust, through the virtue of faith, who He has

revealed Himself to be.

Father’s Corner

Dear Loving Parishioners,

Love and Peace of Christ!

The central theme of today’s scripture readings is that

we gain eternal life by loving God living in our

neighbors, as we become good neighbors to them.

The parable of the Good Samaritan clearly indicated

that a “neighbor” is anyone who needs help and

anyone who gives that help. Thus, the correct approach

is not to ask the question, “Who is my neighbor?” but

rather to ask, “Am I a good neighbor to others?”

Life lessons: 1) Let us check to see if we are good

neighbors. We are invited to be people of generosity,

kindness, and mercy toward all who are suffering. A

sincere smile, a cheery greeting, an encouraging word

of appreciation, a heartfelt “thank you” can work

wonders for a suffering soul.

2) Let the ‘Good Samaritans’ touch our lives. Let us

be willing to be touched by persons we have once

despised. For some of us, it may be persons of another

color or race; for others, it may mean persons of a

different political persuasion.

Let us pray that the Spirit of the living God may melt us,

mold us, use us so that there will no longer be even

one person who is untouchable or outside the

boundaries of compassion.

God bless you,

—Fr. Peter

Father John Ofori-Domah Mission Appeal

July 20th & 21st

Wiawso diocese was established in the year 2000. It is

a rural diocese with a majority of the people doing

subsistence farming.

The diocese lacks a good road network and

educational and health facilities. Some places lack

potable water. The diocese, in her evangelizing work,

manages to help the communities with these basic

necessities of life, especially that of water and health

care.

Proceeds will be used to provide boreholes and wells

for the needy communities in the Diocese of Wiawso.

Rt. Rev. Amalraj Visiting from India

August 3rd & 4th

The Bishop will be celebrating the weekend masses on

August 3rd & 4th. There will be a second collection for

his mission.

Maximilian Kolbe Festival. This will

become an annual event. Activities will

run from 11am to 4pm with mass to

follow. There will be food, bake sale,

music, Bingo, and a classic car show. We are looking for

fun lawn games/activities for young and old (lawn darts,

All proceeds will go to the fundraising for our new social

hall. We will be reaching out to our parish ministries to

assist in making this a fun event for all. Watch the bulletin

the gathering space. Questions? Contact Mary at

interested, contact Mary at 715-340-7217.
