A fair number of mainly excellent quality prime cattle entered for the first market of the New Year rewarded with a fantastic trade across the board. A super entry of heifers from Messrs. R.H. & C.D. Care of St. Buryan saw their three Limousin crosses topping at 225p, 224p and 223p/kg, purchased by Dales Family Butchers, Peter Morris Butchers and R.J. Trevarthen Ltd respectively. Premium steer from Messrs. W.T. Bryant & Sons of St. Martin a big 716kg Limousin x at 214p/kg realising £1,532 to R.J. Trevarthen Ltd. Even dearer at £1,590 was an 841kg Limousin x from Mr. J.M. Hinkley of Rejerrah sold to J.V. Richards Ltd. Top value heifer at £1,378 for Messrs. D.L. & A.E. Grigg of Goonhavern being a heavy 703kg Limousin x and bought by R.J. Trevarthen Ltd.

A surprisingly short entry of cull cows met with a flying trade for all on offer with more required to meet very strong buyer demand. A premium of 156p/kg for a well-fleshed young Friesian from Messrs. W. Marsh & Son of St. Stephen realising £1,002 to Messrs. Rapson of Tavistock. Few beef sorts forward saw a Limousin x lead at 130p/kg and £991 for Mr. J.M. Hinkley of Rejerrah and bought by David Ellis.

A good entry of rearing calves as well as a mixture of stirks sold well with buyers back in force. Leading the bulls was a month-old British Blue x from Messrs. J.H. & S.M. Dark & Son of Mullion at £350, with further Blues all for different vendors at £315, £305 and £300 twice. Messrs. Dark also sold a Limousin x heifer to jointly lead at £238, matched by a British Blue x for Messrs. R.M. & C.D. Rundle of Mevagissey. A big stirk entry saw older stirks top at £490, with nice younger stirks from Messrs. W. Marsh & Son of St. Stephen to £415 for Limousin x males, and their heifers to £390.

Also achieving £111 were a fine pen of 47.6kg good conformation lambs from a good run forward from Messrs. I.D. & S.S. Backway of St. Eval bought by J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station.
