Trumpet TRINITY BAPTIST CHURCH VOLUME 37 • ISSUE 3 MARCH 2013 Resurrection Sunday W e daily rejoice in the resurrection of our Lord. But just as Israel would take time at Passover to bask in the deliverance of God, at Easter time we bask in the reality of the resurrection. It would be impossible to even begin to touch on all that was accomplished at the resurrection in such a short note. However this year I would like to focus on one simple point the resurrection event intends for us to understand. Jesus was innocent. While the worldly court system was designed in a manner where injustices could easily occur, the fact that God overturned the sentence means He saw Jesus as innocent of the crime with which He was accused. This is not to say He did not bear our sins but that He did not deserve to bear our sins. Jesus never sinned and rather than condemnation the court should have affirmed His righteousness. The Jewish leaders used the system to rid themselves of a rival. God used the system to rid the world of sin and death. The Jews used the system to bring condemnation on an innocent man, and God used the condemnation of Jesus to free us from all condemnation. The Jews used the system to inflict great physical, mental and emotional suffering on Jesus. God used the system to bring us into perfect peace. Finally, the Jews used the system to kill the Messiah. God used the death of Jesus to point to His true righteousness. You see, when Jesus was raised by God and placed at God’s right hand, God affirmed what Jesus had been saying all along - “I belong to the Father.” As you meditate this month on the resurrection, try to see how many things you can write down that were achieved because of the resurrection. Resurrection SundayWe daily rejoice in the resurrection of our lord. But just as israel

would take time at passover to bask in the deliverance of God, at easter time we bask in the reality of the resurrection. it would

be impossible to even begin to touch on all that was accomplished at the resurrection in such a short note. however this year i would like to focus on one simple point the resurrection event intends for us to understand.

Weekday Preschool

LentWhen i was a very young man (i know, a long time ago) i remember one Wednesday when the man i worked for came to work with ashes on his forehead. Being the good Baptist boy i was, i found this interesting. it was ash Wednesday, the first day of lent, the forty weekdays that lead up to easter. Why do some Christian denominations emphasize lent more than others? Why had my church not placed much emphasis, if any, on the church calendar and celebrate this season with other Christians all over the world? still to this day i have many of the same questions.

over the past couple of years i have been blessed to see how many members at Trinity have taken the call of pastor eddie seriously, to sacrifice something during the month of november, to draw closer to the lord. The idea of lent is not to draw attention, but to join with Christians all over the world, to fast or give something up and draw closer to the lord with a repentant spirit.

at the time of your reading of this, lent will be approximately two weeks in, however it’s not too late to join with the church universal and observe this beautiful time of the year.

Health KitsThe mary lou merchant Circle will be handing out zip lock bags with a list of items needed for the health Kits on Sunday, March 10. please return the filled bags on Sunday, March 17 and March 24. These health kits will be distributed to homeless shelters, state fair workers, mental health centers, and other ministry centers that our state and local associations minister in.

Dan the Animal Manmark your calendars for Dan the animal man on March 18th-20th. TBC will be hosting Dan on local television shows and at lexington 2 schools to promote our Big event which will be held at TBC on Wednesday March 20th at 6:30 pm. Dan will share the gospel through his unique presentation of exotic animals. We are going to need 50-100 volunteers to pull off this massive event. if you are interested in volunteering please contact pastor Jim in the church office. [email protected] or 791-0440

SummerSaltsummersalt is our week long summer camp experience for students 6th-12th grade on June 17-21, 2013 at White oak Conference Center in Winnsboro, sC. This is an event that i would like to challenge every one of our students to go on. Besides having a powerful worship experience each night combined with creative drama, your son or daughter will be challenged to go deeper in their walk with Christ by some of the godliest college students our state has to offer in small group Bible study time with other students from around the state. The week we are going will also include the youth music arts option (y.m.a.C.) for students interested in developing their musical and singing abilities. When students go on events like summersalt and are away from their normal routine, God often transforms their lives in very powerful ways. please send a message to your son or daughter on how important their spiritual walk with Christ is by making it a priority for them to participate. The cost is $220 and a $50 deposit is required to reserve your son or daughter’s spot by april 14. if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact me at [email protected].
