Trumpet TRINITY BAPTIST CHURCH VOLUME 34 • ISSUE 12 DECEMBER 2010 Immanuel: “God With Us” C hristmas is about God’s desire to express His perfect love for us. “God with US” is one of the most powerful theological concepts in all of Scripture. God is an all powerful, Holy One who wants us to be with Him. He created us and desires to live with us. The garden, tabernacle and temple all show God’s love for us. Ultimately, we see His desire in Jesus and now in His Spirit who not only lives with us but in us. As believers it is imperative that we live with and in Jesus. We need to live Spirit filled lives. The point is that Immanuel is not only about Christmas but about the reality of our everyday lives. God is constantly with us and that reality should transform who we are and how we act. Next Year I have prayed and thought a great deal about next year. There are two special dates I want to talk with you about. The first is on January 2, 2011 when we will devote the first service of the new year to prayer. On that day I will be asking every member of Trinity to commit to pray 15 minutes for the church every week for the entire year. We will be challenging each member to commit to read the Word in a systematic way and we will spend the entire day around prayer and we will be taking the Lord’s Supper. We will also be committing to seek God for His will throughout the year. If we are to be used by God, we must be people of prayer. I can think of no better way to start our new year than on our knees and focused on the Father. The second day is January 9 when we will talk about the vision of the church as we move forward. The goal of the 9th will be to present a clear vision for 2011 and what I believe God desires for us to accomplish. I hope to talk about expecta- tions and what God desires from each of us as we seek His Kingdom in 2011. In both cases we will be having Sunday evening services. I hope that every member of Trinity will make being at these two events a priority. We pray that every member will attend Sunday School on these days when the classes will be involved in some very special lessons. The Search is On We are currently seeking to fill two positions: Youth and Music. We have looked at hundreds of resumes and are currently talking with several candidates for the youth position as well as candidates for the music pastor position. The key to these searches is hearing who it is God desires to serve in these areas. I want nothing but the best for our students and music and I know God has a perfect person in mind for these positions. Youth: We are looking for someone who loves God and has the ability and passion to disciple students. He needs to have a long term plan and a clear process for growing students into Christ-likeness. Music: The role music plays in corporate worship is so important. A music pastor needs to have a great deal of maturity and the ability to edify people of all ages. He needs to have not only a Spirit-filled life but the ability to lead us in Spirit- filled worship. For each of these positions I would ask that you pray that God will bring men who will be part of a greater Kingdom work that will launch us to another level of ministry hear at Trinity. We must also continue to pray for Jeff and Kim (and Sara Beth) as they seek the Lord’s will for their future. Jeff is a great blessing and I consider it an honor to work with him.
