TO EXPRESS THE DISAPPROVAL OF THE MEMBERS OF 11

THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES IN THE COMMENTS 12

OF DONALD TRUMP AND TO PUBLICLY STATE THAT HE 13

IS NOT WELCOME IN THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA. 14

Whereas, Donald Trump held a rally at the Winthrop Coliseum in 16

Rock Hill on January 8th, 2016; and 17

18

Whereas, during the rally, Trump made many inflammatory 19

comments on immigration and Islam; and 20

21

Whereas, Rose Hamid, a Muslim woman, was removed from the 22

rally for her silent protest, which was cheered on by the crowd 23

after Trump had played to their fears regarding Islam; and 24

Whereas, Trump’s abrasive and racist rhetoric has been the 26

backbone of his campaign since he announced he was running for 27

President in June; and 28

Whereas, Trump’s campaign tactics have drawn the attention of 30

many concerned citizens, including U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, 31

who has referred to Trump as “race-baiting, xenophobic bigot;” 32

and 33

Whereas, Rock Hill has a long history of fighting racism and 35

proudly displays their “No Room For Racism” motto on all city 36

limit signs; and 37

Whereas, South Carolinians have tirelessly worked to overcome a 39

history of hatred and bigotry and there is no place in this State for 40

anyone who espouses hatred and bigotry as a campaign slogan. 41

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 2

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 4

by this resolution, express collective disapproval with the 5

comments of Donald Trump and state that he is not welcome in the 6

state of South Carolina. 7
