Troldtekt Plus helps you achieve the same excellent sound absorption as with a classic Troldtekt acoustic panel installed on top of mineral wool. However, you will save both fitting height and time at the building site. Simply put, Troldtekt Plus consists of Troldtekt acoustic panels covered with a layer of mineral wool on the back. Acoustic panel and mineral wool are thereby installed together, avoiding contact with loose mineral wool. Two in one

Troldtekt Plus is a doublelayer panel made from one

25 mm or 35 mm layer of Troldtekt acoustic panel +

one 18 mm (or 40 mm) layer of mineral wool. The back

of the mineral wool panel is covered with nonwoven

material and the two panels are glued together with

a nontoxic PVA glue.

Troldtekt Plus offers the same excellent properties as

Troldtekt acoustic panels:

Added sound absorption

For acoustic ceilings in general, the installation itself,

or the construction, is an important factor in achieving

the best possible sound absorption. The best effect,

i.e. the widest possible effective area, is typically

achieved by installing the acoustic ceiling 200300 mm

from the fixed ceiling. To achieve optimum sound ab

sorption it is customary to install the Troldtekt acoustic

panels on top of a layer of mineral wool.

The doublelayer Troldtekt Plus panel ‘incorporates’

the mineral wool and, when installed as a suspended

ceiling, Troldtekt Plus provides optimum absorption

through almost the entire spectrum – see figure 4.

However, even as a directly installed ceiling, Troldtekt

Plus absorbs close to 100 per cent in the normal

speech spectrum (>500 Hz) and this with fitting

heights of only 43 or 65 mm – see figures 2 and 3.

Not only do you reduce the fitting height but 43 mm

Troldtekt Plus can also be installed on normal 22 × 95

mm wooden battens, which can offer huge building

project savings.

Sound curves 14 show the absorption coefficient for different structures. You should aim for the highest possible α (absorption coefficient) values.

With the doublelayer Troldtekt Plus panel, the acoustic ceiling and mineral wool are fitted in one action! This saves time at the building site and means that workmen avoid contact with loose mineral wool.

Simple installation

Ideal for retrofitting

The best results are achieved by incorporating acous

tics in a construction project already in the project

planning phase, as this provides multiple opportunities

for elegant acoustics solutions using Troldtekt acoustic

panels. However, if the ‘damage’ is done and you have

a room in which hard floors, large glass sections and

smooth ceilings cause poor acoustics, the optimum

solution is to replace the existing ceiling with a Troldtekt

acoustic ceiling. Unfortunately, this requires an exten

sive renovation process, involving construction mess

and lots of dust, which may seem to be insurmountable

if the room is already in use. In this case, Troldtekt Plus

is the ideal solution as the existing ceiling need not

be taken down. Just screw new wooden battens onto

the existing ceiling to ensure easy installation of Trold

tekt Plus on the

wooden battens.

renovation process

can be over in just a

few days.

Removable ceilings

Troldtekt Plus is the best solution for removable ceilings

where workmen may subsequently require access to

installations above the ceiling. In profile systems such

as Troldtekt T35 for concealed or exposed installation,

you just tilt up the acoustic panel to inspect and main

tain installations above the ceiling. The back of the

mineral wool is covered with nonwoven material and

glued to the back of the Troldtekt panels, so workmen

completely avoid contact with mineral wool fibres.

Acoustic clouds

If a Troldtekt acoustic ceiling cannot be installed

across the surface ceiling, floating acoustic clouds

with Troldtekt Plus is an excellent solution. Just install

Troldtekt Plus on the Troldtekt C60 profile system

and terminate the clouds in Troldtekt aluminium pro

files. This is an easy and elegant acoustics solution

for limited areas.

As standard, Troldtekt Plus is 43 mm thick (25 + 18 mm), so the panels can be installed on regular 22 × 95 mm wooden battens. This can generate huge savings for a renovation project!

If you need added sound absorption, Troldtekt Plus is also available in 65 mm thickness (25 + 40 mm) for installation on 45 × 95 mm wooden battens.

< Removal of the existing ceiling is not required! New wooden battens on the existing ceiling provides a sufficient base for Troldtekt Plus.

<< Some floor covering and a rolling scaffolding is all that is required – and the renovation process can be completed in just a few days.

The headquarters were a raw

and naked industrial warehouse

when ProDesign moved in. The

office complex, owned by the

property com pany Olav de

Linde, had left it up to the individual

tenants to decorate their rooms, including partitions,

ceilings and lighting. However, the interior decoration

had to be removed upon vacation of the premises,

leaving the building’s appearance unchanged. With

Troldtekt Plus installed as clouds, the raw impression

of the large office spaces has been retained but also

refined into an inspiring work environment.

Inspiring industry

ProDesign got help from architectural firm

Merete Nielsen for the interior design.

Architect MAA Merete Nielsen says:

„My starting point is always the existing

rooms and for this project I found the rustic in

dustrial environment very inspiring. ProDesign

wanted large office landscapes and creating a

functional office environment in the resonant

concrete halls was no easy task.”

Acoustic clouds

Merete Nielsen emphasises that a good

acoustic environment is essential:

„That is why I chose Troldtekt – not only

does it support the existing mood but it

seems almost refined compared to the exist

ing grey cast concrete. The cementbonded

wood wool is installed as floating clouds that help

define the areas. The limited cloud surfaces still leaves

a clear impression of the concrete behind them and

removing the panels at a later stage is extremely easy.”

Creative Director Allan Rasmussen of ProDesign is

also excited about the acoustic properties:

„These panels have an incredible effect in a building

like this, with its hard concrete faces and glass walls.

We have one showroom without clouds and

the difference is striking. The acoustics simply change

as you cross from one room to the other. It’s very

convincing.”

The internationally renowned eyewear manufacturer ProDesign has introduced functional large office landscapes into a former industrial building. Troldtekt clouds ensure that the acoustic environment – as with all other interior decoration – is easy to remove upon vacation of the premises.

TROLDTEKT PLUS > 7

The project is the result of a

limited competition won by

Danish architects CEBRA, well

known for their work on edu

cational institutions and many

other different projects. For

them, it was a great architec

tural challenge which has resulted in an elegant and

simple solution. The two schools were positioned at

rightangles and originally functioned independently

of each other. In order to link the two, the architects

opted for a greater overlap between them. This

crossover effect has provided the united building

with a new architectural identity and horizontality.

The common centre houses a canteen for both

schools which also doubles as a venue for large

gatherings in the shared auditorium and an upper

level library. A particular feature is the extensive

scale raked tier seating which encourages social

interaction, study and leisure.

KKGGraphically and culturally interwoven

This interesting project involved connecting a high school with a technical college, merging two buildings into one where students from both could enjoy shared facilities.

One of the reasons why the new rooms work equally

well for teaching, study or musical performances is

the large scale use of Troldtekt acoustic panels in the

design. CEBRA has frequently specified the panels in

buildings where noise levels need to be controlled,

such as in sports halls, kindergartens and shops.

Here, the tiles are coloured in several shades of

grey and run as parallel bands across the ceilings and

complement the dark and light floors. This delicate

interplay between the hard, reflective floor surfaces

and sound absorbing, finely textured ceilings provides

pleasing aesthetics and a great sense or orientation

within the rooms.

Project architect Mikkel Frost says:

„From concept to reality, it is almost something of a re

lief to find out if your assumptions about how the

building will be used are correct to hear speeches and

enjoy the music or the simple satisfaction of observing

students socialising, studying or just happily hanging

out on the long staircase!”
