-GROUP DAY-
-Groups of 3, facing counterclockwise around a large circle, in dance area
(20 X 20 paces). -Students will move in groups of 3 around a large circle.
-Traditionally, this is a dance with 2 girls flanking a boy in the middle. Compliment those groups who have mixed genders.
-Explain/demonstrate the movements before playing the music.
-Practice the dance with the music.
-Begin steps shortly after music starts (after a quick 8 ct. from the start).
Variation:-See "Additional Dances" to perform dance with a parachute.
Academic Integration:-Locate Russia on world map. Lead a discussion on Russian history, geography.
-Today we will learn a Russian folk dance that moves around in a circle. It’s called “The Troika.”
-Mingle-Mingle 3’s! Join hands and stand on the circle, facing counterclockwise (point).
Let’s practice the movements together: -Jog 8 steps forward. -Jog 8 steps backward. -Middle and L side partners form an arch. R side person moves under arch and back tooriginal place (8 cts.).
-Middle and R side partners form an arch. L side person moves under arch and back to original place (8 cts.). -All three join hands and jog in small circle clockwise (12 cts.).
-Stamp feet 3xs, pause for 1 ct. -All three join hands and jog in small circle counterclockwise (12 cts.).
-Stamp feet 3xs, pause for 1 ct. -Repeat entire sequence from beginning. -Be quick! The music will speed up!
