OUR BIRDING TIME!

DAY 2: Villa Marshes, Pucusana, Puerto Viejo and flight to Cusco We started our birding activity in Lima as usually. If you are in Lima already you should do some birding around. Villa Marshes & Pucusana are the most recommended places; near, safe and easy birding. We drove for 25 minutes south of Miraflores to Pantanos de villa (villa marshes) and we explored the Maravilla area for our target species. After some hours searching the wetland, we drove for 30 minutes southern to Pucusana local fishing port. We did our semi pelagic trip on a local boat for our wanted species. Then we had some extra time for Puerto Viejo for extra species. After all those birding location we drove straight to Lima airport for our flight to Cusco. We flew to Cusco and we went to our hotel near the main square late in the afternoon and free time. DAY 3: Train ride to Aguas Calientes Today was mainly traveling. We did our train ride trip to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town). We arrived for lunch time. And then we tried some afternoon birding along the Urubamba River. But the rain started as we were birding for a while but we were very lucky because we have found a cock of the rock juvenile on its nest and few other species before the heavy rain started!

DAY 4: Machu Picchu! – Train ride to Ollantaytambo We got early breakfast and we took the buss to Machu Picchu entrance. Before we started our historical adventure we were disturbed by small birds flock: 2 Plushcaps foraging and Ocellated Piculet eye level posing for photos. The Inca ruin was just unbelievable! We have found 4 Inca Wrens (ENDEMIC) at upper Inca Site. Then after our historical walk throughout the ruin we headed back out for our bus ride. We stopped near the museum area for birding again before lunch time. White Hummingbird (ENDEMIC), Spectacled Redstart, Blue-capped Tanager, , Saffron-Crowned Tanager, Mottle-cheeked Tyrannulet, Slate-throated Redstart. Then we went to the other side of the river for: white-capped dipper, Torrent duck, Blue-necked tanager, Golden-crowned flycatcher, Silver-backed Tanager, Oleaginous Hemispingus, Dusky-Green Oropendola, Andean Motmot, Rust & Yellow Tanager, Versicolored Barbet in its nest!, Blue and black Tanager, White-eared Solitaire, Citrine and Russet-crowned Warblers, Speckled Hummingbird among others species. There were several species and mixed flocks finally the Manu Road was as usually. We spent time at feeders after lunch and we did a short walk in the trails. In the afternoon we did some birding at the upper road and when it was getting just dark we have seen Lyre-tailed Nightjar male soaring around for few times! This spectacular bird flew few times showing the long tailed and some vocalization around us. This was the highlight for today for sure, and then we headed back to our lodge for dinner and overnight. DAY 9: Cock of the rock lodge – Amazonia Lodge Early breakfast and then we started our next birding adventure down Manu road to reach Atalaya Village for our short boat trip (20 Minutes) to Amazonia Lodge.
