A Pastor’s Pondering
Have you ever wondered how Job was able to do it? How could he face
the multiple insurmountable hurdles and still trust the Lord? How could
everything, including the kitchen sink, be thrown at him and he remain faithful?
I have heard people say, “Only if I had the gift of Job,” but I wonder how well
we would do if we were facing thing things he did.
Last month for the newsletter I wrote about peace. Several people came
up to me and shared their feelings on the article. They shared that they were
thankful for those words because of a situation they were facing. Friends, we do
not know what tomorrow will bring, but that does not keep us from the “what
ifs.” Facing an uncertain future, our minds can easily become overwhelmed
with speculation and worry. Then after an event has taken place, we can be
plagued by a different kind of turmoil: Looking backward, we can become
obsessed with the past, wondering if we did the right thing. Facing these
choices, is there any hope?
Sure there is. David learned how to have peace when faced with such
problems. First, he learned the importance of being humble before God and
submitting his mind and heart to Him. When he made mistakes, he knew he
must confess them to Him.
Our human thinking can assume we must carry all the burdens ourselves.
But humility and trust in God are keys to having a calm mind. As we commit
our ways to the Lord, we should recognize that He’s the Creator and our Father.
He cares for us and is watching over us.
David also said he calmed and quieted his soul “like a weaned child.”
This presents a powerful picture for children like this can be confident, knowing
their mothers always are near, ready to help and comfort.
If you find yourself filled with turmoil and anxiety, make sure you are
focusing on God. Commit your needs to Him. Turn every problem over to Him,
just as weaned children trust in their mothers. Humble yourself in the presence
of the Lord, and submit your life and every issue you face to Him. Then start
praising Him and thanking Him for His answers. Right now, calm and quiet
your soul and receive His peace. Place your hope in Him!

Music Ministry News
I want to start by saying a great big "THANK YOU" to everyone for the wonder-
ful birthday wishes. Not only celebrating at both services and then the concert fol-
lowed by birthday cake and homemade ice cream but also having both sons, my
daughter-in-law, and my three beautiful granddaughters here for the weekend made
for the best birthday.
I also want to thank those who participated in the concert. Everyone did a wonderful
job. If you missed the trip to the "islands,” you missed a great evening. There were several surprises, some of
which were beyond description. The concert can be viewed on the website. Pastor Ed has mentioned the music de-
partment doing another concert in December. We look forward to putting this together. Please watch for the date
for this program.
We will continue through August having practice for the choir at 10:10 am on
Sunday morning. Hopefully after Labor Day, we will start back having Wednesday
practice for both the choir and the handbells. The date and time for practicing will be
announced and put in the bulletin as we get closer to September. I hope you continue
to have good times for the rest of the summer.
Experience the Bible in Historical Context.
This five-session Bible study, God Heard Their Cry, by noted teacher and
historian, Ray Vander Laan, illustrates how God answered the cry of the
Israelites as they were persecuted in Egypt and made himself known to both them
and their oppressors. We explore with Ray Vander Laan via his DVDs and
study guide how the Israelites found freedom in the midst of life’s trials.
Marie Peacock will facilitate the study as Ray Vander Laan takes us to the land where the events
happened.
Come join us starting Friday, September 10th, at 10 am in Trinity’s Fellowship Hall through
October 8th. Sign up below to let us know you will attend. The Discovery Guide is $10.
I wish to attend the Bible Study, God Hear their Cry, starting Friday, Sept.10th through Oct. 8th .

and to expand concepts of mission through the global ministries of the church.
Love Circle will serve the meal to the J1 students on the evening of August 3rd, 2021. Our summer mission will
continue through August with collecting school supplies for the NMB Middle School.
We invite anyone interested in a circle to join us at our first meeting, September 2nd, in the Fellowship Hall at

Read a Good Book Lately? UMW Book Reviews
by Linda Eichenbaum
Finding Peace in an Anxious World – A mission study created by the Urban Village Church of Chicago and
edited by Erin James-Brown. This study uses the book of Proverbs and the “Serenity Prayer” as a guide to help
Christians find their way through anxiety, worry, and fear and move toward the peace “that passes all
understanding.” The book explores ways to discover peace through scriptural and spiritual disciplines so that we
can be rooted in God and energized to live fully as disciples of Christ. The book is available online and in our Trin-
ity library.
Other excellent UMW recommended books in our Trinity library UMW section are So You Want to Talk
about Race by Ijeoma Oluo, Who Lynched Willie Earl? by Rev. Will Willimon (former pastor at Trinity), The Five
Love Languages of Children by Gary Chapman, Bearing Witness in the Kin-Dom—Living into the Church’s Moral
Witness through Radical Discipleship by Darryl Stephens, and All Alone in the World-Children of the Incarcerated
by Nell Bernstein.
UMW Women in the Pulpit
Sunday, August 1
Debbie Waitzman and Linda Eichenbaum will deliver the messages.
Save the Date
United Methodist Women is offering a salad luncheon, complete with croissant and beverage, in the Fellow-
ship Hall on September 12 after the 11:00 service. Choose one or more from a variety of delicious salads and enjoy
some fellowship time while you eat. Proceeds from the luncheon will support the shelter for abused women and
their children under the auspices of The Family Justice Center of Horry County. The cost is $10 per plate.
Homemade cookies will be available too. Good food for a good cause.
UMW wishes you a blessed August!

Mission Ministry News August 2021 Mission meetings will resume bi-monthly meetings on August 16th at 9:00 am. There will not be a Mission
meeting in December. Anyone interested in being part of the Missions’ Committee is invited to attend. Back-to-School Shoes – From June 13th through July 18th, we held our fundraiser for Back-to-School Shoes. This
money will go to North Strand Helping Hand who will provide a $40.00 gift card to a local shoe store for children
who might otherwise not have new shoes for school. As of August 19th, we had received over $4624.00. In
August I will report a final figure. I would like to thank each of you who gave so generously. Even though the
fund drive is over, you can still contribute, and we will see that the money gets to NSHH. The Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center is looking for compassionate caregivers to provide a safe and
home-like environment to veterans in the Conway and surrounding areas. This is a wonderful alternative to a
nursing home for those who have served our country. Care for the veteran would be provided in your home with
support from VA and our medical homecare team. Compensation is provided to the caregiver. Caregivers must
have prior care-giving experience (formal or informal) and have the compassion and motivation to provide 24/7
supervision to veterans placed in their home. For more information, contact the VA Medical Foster Home office
at (843) 637-7321 or see me. There are flyers in the back hallway and more information on the Mission Bulletin
Board. Lions Club Eyeglass Drive – Boxes are in the church for the Lions Club. These boxes are for you to put used
eyeglasses in so that the Lions Club can get them to people who need them. We will be leaving small boxes up
year round so that you can drop off used eyeglasses any time during the year. ASAP is still going strong. We are currently serving 59 veterans. All food donations are welcome, but this month
I am asking for boxes of pasta. Of course, we will happily accept monetary donations as well. Thank you to all
the children at Vacation Bible School for the peanut butter and jelly. We received well over 50 jars of peanut
butter and jelly. When I get a complete count, I will let you know the totals. ASAP will begin bi-monthly
meetings on September 1st at 1:00 pm. Mobile Meal Dates for 2021 - John Flynn and his team are doing a fantastic job. The remaining dates for 2021
are September 6-10 and November 8-12. Master’s Meal – Master’s Meal is operating as usual. If you are interested in helping with this mission, please
contact Linda Jones (864-680-3994). If you have any questions or suggestions for your Mission Committee, please contact Frank Autry at 843-685-
1190 or [email protected].
On Sunday, August 15th, at our
11:00 am service in the Sanctuary,
we are having a Blessing of the
Backpacks and a Blessing for our
Educators.
Children of all ages are invited to bring their bookbags
and participate in a special
Blessing of the Backpacks.
Educators, there will be a special
blessing as you head back to

Wednesday Nights Are Getting EVEN BETTER!
This Fall, our Wednesday nights at Trinity UMC will be getting EVEN BETTER! Our Wednesday night
Fellowship dinners are already a blast, filled with great food, fellowship, and lots of laughs. More than anything,
they are filled with God and His presence. This Fall we are adding even MORE fellowship, God, and laughs!
Starting Wednesday, September 8, the Trinity Kids, Amplified Youth, and their families will join the Wednesday
night fun! As a WHOLE church family, we will meet for dinner at 6:00 pm. Following the meal, Trinity Kids and
Amplified Youth will break off to play games, learn more about God, and build lasting relationships between each
other and God. This will be our new night of the week to meet for Trinity Kids and Amplified Youth. We will end
the evening by 8:00 pm. Attention Parents and Adults – After the dinner on Wednesday nights, you will have an opportunity to participate
in a few different things. You are invited to join the choir as they fellowship through music. We will have various
Bible studies and small group meetings if you feel called to get involved. And if you are wanting to continue
growing closer to one another through games, we will have that available also. Adult Fellowship and Bible Study
opportunities will begin in October when the Fellowship Meals occur weekly. Check out the newsletter next
month to see which Bible studies are being offered and how to sign up! We look forward to seeing you and having
you be a part of our Bigger and Better Wednesday nights full of fellowship, fun, and our Father God!
