R G Parkins & Partners Ltd are part of the successful design team, procured through a traditional tender process, to provide Geotechnical, Civil and Structural Engineering services for the redevelopment of Trinity School in Carlisle.

The redevelopment is being carried out in four Phases, with each phase handed over at the end of each academic year. Working closely with the Client and the design team R G Parkins & Partners Ltd have designed an innovative, cost-effective structural solution and sustainable drainage systems, delivered within the time constraints of a live school environment.

Phase 1, completed on schedule in July 2010, providing a new Science and Technology Block and enclosed courtyard with glazed links to the existing buildings. The structural form comprised a braced steel frame incorporating cellular beams with in-situ composite concrete floors, lightweight roof and masonry infill panels.

Flood risk has been mitigated via the implementation of a surface water attenuation system to control the rate of discharge back into the River Eden.

Phase II comprised a combination of new build and refurbishment to create the new Humanities, Special Ed-ucational Needs, Modern Foreign Languages, Art, Dining Room and Exhibition areas. A similar structural philosophy was adopted for Phase II which was completed on schedule and handed over to the Client in July 2011.

Work on Phase III started in July 2011 and comprises a combination of new build and refurbishment to create a new glazed Entrance Mall and Canopy.
