Sermon “Baptized into God’s Story” Romans 6

Nicene Creed

C I believe in one God, the Father Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds,

God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made,

being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made;

who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit

of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.

He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures

and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father.

And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead,

whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

Celebration of the Lord's Supper

If you are a member of an LCMS congregation we invite you to join us this today for Holy Communion. Lutherans believe that the

celebration of Lord’s Supper is the eating and drinking of the body and blood of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sin and

strengthening of faith. We also believe Holy Communion is a sign of oneness of faith, life, and worship. We ask that if you have

not communed with us before, and would like to receive Communion please visit with one of the elders on duty or one of the

Pastors so that we may be of help to you concerning your participation in this Holy Supper. Anyone is welcome to come forward

to receive a blessing. Simply indicate your desire by crossing your arms over your chest.

The Words of Our Lord

P Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke

it and gave it to the disciples and said: “Take, eat; this is My T body, which is given for you. This do in

remembrance of Me.”

In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying:

“Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My T blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of

sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

In-Person Worship Has Resumed! Due to social

distancing, services are limited to 50 people and require

pre-registration. Registration each week begins at 9am

Monday mornings and closes 24 hours before the start of

the service. Online Services Continue at 8am for those

unable to be here in person. Adult Bible Study live-

streams at 9:15am. Our re-opening procedures video

can be viewed on our You Tube and Facebook pages.

The Quilter’s Silent Auction is currently on hold and

will resume once we can be together again. Proceeds

will provide funding for Trinity youth to attend Camp

Okoboji. Details will be posted when available.

Camp Okoboji has cancelled summer programs, but are

Building Healthy Families: Many of us grew up

learning to be tough and to never ask for help. But in

recent years, we have found that if we ask for help, we

can get it from our friends, our family, our pastor and

other helpers. Don’t try to be the Lone Ranger. God has

placed numerous people in our lives to help us.

Remember Paul’s admonition in the last chapter of

Galatians: “Bear one another’s burdens, and so

fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 When you allow

others to care for you, you allow them to grow in their

GOD’S GREATER STORY

A SERMON SERIES ON ROMANS 6-14 Since 2005, National Public Radio has been airing a series called “This I Believe.” Individuals from all walks of life have written and submitted their stories of faith. Essays on what they believe. These essays are exploratory. Finding blessing in work. Discovering joy in being a neighbor. Trying to have faith in the midst of the messiness of life. The essays are also fragmentary. With over 9 years of testimony and over 70,000 stories archived on the web, “This I Believe” invites you into a world of many beliefs, many personal approaches to the self, to one another, and sometimes to God. One soon discovers that there are as many stories of belief as there are people believing and belief becomes a fragmentary collection of various experiences in the world. In this sermon series, we add one more story to the collection. This one dates from around 55 – 58 AD and comes from the apostle Paul. Paul was in Corinth, about to journey to Jerusalem to bring an offering from the churches to the poor. As he anticipated that journey, however, he lifted up his eyes and saw something much larger: a missionary trip to Spain. Along the way, he planned to stop by Rome, a place he had never visited. So he sent a letter ahead. To introduce himself as an apostle and to give the Roman church a vision of what he believed. “This I believe,” the apostle Paul said. As you listen to Paul’s belief, however, you hear a greater story. Paul is not speaking of a belief that is only for himself, a personal theology or a record of his personal spiritual journey. Paul is speaking of God and God’s work among his people, a saving work that includes all nations and that extends throughout all time. Paul’s words of faith are not for himself alone but for all peoples. Paul tells the Romans and us God’s greater story. Join us now as we enter into the sermon series, “God’s Greater Story.” Listen in as Paul offers his theological vision: a vision of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit at work to raise a people for his purpose in the world.
