    PRELUDE Andante Anton Dvorak

    PASTOR’S GREETING, INTRODUCTIONS, AND LIFE OF THE CHURCH HYMN #625 O Lord My God Stuart K. Hine (See music in bulletin)

    CALL TO WORSHIP inspired by Isaiah 42:1-9, Mark 1:9-11, Matthew 3:13-17, Luke 3:21-23

    L: Today we celebrate a special baptism; the baptism of Jesus of Nazareth. God says: Look! See my chosen servant, the One in whom I utterly delight;

    P: I have placed my Spirit on him, he will bring true justice to the nations. L: When Jesus was baptized, the heavens opened up, and Spirit came down like

    a dove; and there was a voice from heaven saying: P: “This is my dearly loved Son, with whom I am delighted.” L: The joy of the Lord be with you all. P: And also with you. L: Come, let us worship God!

    PRAYER OF CONFESSION Lord, you have blessed us with life. We praise you for this blessing. What we have done with our lives has both delighted and perplexed You. We are far too often inclined to be stubborn and arrogant, believing that we are sufficiently powerful, that we have little or no need for You. But there is an emptiness in us – a place where we are raw and hurting, bleeding, and bruised. We have tried our own healing methods, and they have not worked. We feel as though we are an oar-less, sail-less boat drifting in water, unable to gain direction, unable to see the shore. We long for home and hope. From across these waters, You have called us. Now let us come to You in contrition, seeking Your healing and forgiving love.

    (Silence is kept for personal confession)

    Amen.

  • DECLARATION OF PARDON L: The love of God is always offered to us, freely, joyfully, for all eternity. Rejoice, dear friends, this is the Good News of the Lord: P: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God! L: Let us stand and give glory to God.

    GLORIA PATRI Hymn #579 Glory be to the Father And to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, Is now, and ever shall be, World without end – Amen, Amen.

    BLESSING OF COMMUNITY PRESENTATION OF OUR TITHES, GIFTS, AND COMMITMENTS OFFERTORY Offertory Craig A. Penfield DOXOLOGY Hymn #592 Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

    PRAYER OF DEDICATION SCRIPTURE READING (NRSV): Mark 1:4-11

    4 John the baptizer appeared[a] in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5 And people from the whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem were going out to him, and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. 6 Now John was clothed with camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. 7 He proclaimed, “The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals. 8 I have baptized you with[b] water; but he will baptize you with[c] the Holy Spirit.”

  • The Baptism of Jesus

    9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. 11 And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved;[d] with you I am well pleased.”

    SERMON Receive God’s Blessing Rev. Gwen Brandfass CONFESSION OF FAITH The Nicene Creed

    We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

    We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

    We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

    HYMN Jesus Name Above All Names

    Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name.

    Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done

    On earth as it is in heaven.

    Give us this day our daily bread;

    And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;

    And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

    For Thine is the kingdom and the power

    And the glory, forever. Amen.

    HOW GREAT THOU ART11.10.11.10 with refrain

    This tuneful retelling of the salvation story began in Swedish and was translated into German and then intoRussian before reaching its English form. Despite such linguistic and musical revisions, it continues to be ameaningful source of comfort to many people.

    STEWARDSHIP CORNER

    2021 PER CAPITA

    As Presbyterians, we agree to participate in the life of the wider church by serving Presbytery, Synod, and General Assembly. One of the ways we do this is through our Per

    Capita apportionment which is how we mutually share the cost of coming together to discern the Spirit's leading for the future. Each member is responsible for their share of this cost. The Presbytery of Grand Canyon approved the 2021 Per Capita apportionment at $38.51 per member. Per Capita gifts should be made payable to Trinity Presbyterian Church (TPC) and noted in the memo line of your check or online payment. Your Session

    has authorized full payment of TPC’s 2021 apportionment and appreciates your prompt payment of your share to avoid a budgetary shortfall in the new year. For additional information contact Larry Culver at (928) 776-9951, [email protected]; Barbara Poland at [email protected]; or Dwayne Warrick at (928) 445-1673, [email protected].
