Spinning a tale out of paper Marley Magpie & the search for the shiniest object
Trine Design
Associates has
garnered the
red dot award:
communication
design 2009 for its
collaborative design
work for the Singapore office of leading European
communications material group, Antalis. The design
award ceremony, which was held on 9 December
2009 in Essen, Germany, celebrates outstanding
design in the creative and design industries. For the
2009 award, 6,112 submissions were received from 42
countries, and out of which 471 works were awarded.
Trine Design Associates won the award for its graphic
and publication design work on Antalis’s new range
of paper sample book - “Marley Magpie And The
Search For The Shiniest Object”.
Departing from the usual style of a paper catalogue,
“Marley Magpie And The Search For The Shiniest
Object” was crafted into a storybook, which featured
individualistic styled illustration works from nine
illustrators based on a story. The marriage of a great
idea, good copy, well-crafted typography, thoughtful
selection of papers and superb execution of print
finishings, which ranges from the unusual velvet
flocking on paper, traditional French-fold to the
painstaking handsewn binding, resulted in a paper
sample book that generated very positive response
and attention from the target audience – designers,
creative and art directors, and premium paper users for
the luxury lifestyle and retail industries.
“Collaborating
with Trine Design
Associates on
Marley Magpie had
been an energizing
and creative
experience for us.
The result had exceeded expectations – the print effects
cleverly brought out the beauty of the typography
and illustration work while directing attention to the
characteristics of the paper. The piece had not only
met its objective of showcasing ArjoWiggins’ papers
in a unique manner but also created much delight
and interest among designers and both print and end
customers who had received it.”
