We come together, like drops of

    water, like astral bodies. We

    opposed each other like magnets

like the colours of skin. People ar

able to hold onto hope since deat

is that which cannot be seen. Th

    approaching dusk dyes every

thing, those who stand, What are

their thoughts? If I were rain I

    could connect to someones hear

as the rain unite the eternally

    separated earth and sky. Yet

malice was never his aim; helashed the vice and spared the

name. Life is a journey which

    leads to crossing the Rubicon.

    Tragedy is always unexpected

It was not the resounding sound of the alarm clock, nor was it the excessively loud voices of the other

tenants that had awoken me that morning. No! It was due to the 8.2 magnitude earthquake that struck

the beach resort that I was vacationing at in Trinidad. It was the first time I ever experienced an

earthquake and I carelessly rushed out my room for assistance.

Tears streaming down my face, I cried in the midst of confusion, Mother, Mother! Where are you?Mother! I tightly squeezed my stuffed toy.

In the lobby, children were crying whilst residents rambled for a place to seek refuge. The hotel was in a

calamity! As the seismic activity increased, I saw fear into one of the maidens eyes. I became so

petrified that I froze. I felt two large hands vigorously shaking my body but I was soo dazed that I hadnt

seen the person. All I knew was that my body was being lifted by this stranger.

Yuhyuh alrite? enquired the man whilst stumbling on his words. Um, chile yuh alrite? Ansa meh

    nah!

When I opened my eyes, I caught sight of a salient lad of a low-class persona. As I finally got off hisshoulders, I realised the shaking ceased.

Could all hotel lodgers assemble in the main hall! this announcement resounded on the public-address

    system.

Everyone gathered in the main hall to begin the evacuation process.

Mama, dat wave big an ah scared a toddler wept to his mother whilst he tugged her torso.

Through the hotels glass door, I saw an impending wave with rising amplitude and my body quivered

    with fear.

Quickly, ascend the stairs! a frantic hostess exclaimed, her hand pointing to the staircase.

Itll be a waste goin in de elevator! she shrugged, earnestly trying to speak properly.

WE GOIN AN DEAD! a middle-aged local bawled with his eyes open wide and hands on his head.

Ah doh wah dead tuhday! Ah wa see tuhmorrow! a stalwart local shouted whilst he pushed every one

aside. His frowned eyebrows made me quake with fear.

Order must be maintained! Thats the only way we, perchance, may survive! the assistant manager

    exclaimed, trying to keep composure.

She clapped her hands twice and everyone silenced. She cleared her throat and raised her voice, An

emergency exit is situated at the back albeit

In mid-sentence, she was stopped by an impatient man. Get out my way nah. If I just listen to you, I go

dead! the man grew malevolent in nature.

The waves came crashing in through the glass. Surely, this hotel wasnt built for an impending tsunami.

Its too late now! a foreigner exclaimed, Were done for!

Every one rushed to higher grounds to escape the incoming tsunami.

Mother will surely come for me. Then well be safe. I whispered to my stuffed toy that was clasp to

my chest. My body was profusely trembling and I staggered through the water.

I will never forget the temporary relief I felt reaching to the third floor of the building.

So what we go to do now? a receptionist asked timorously. She hugged herself tightly whilst rubbing

    her shoulders.

With restless eyes another receptionist responded We should pray dat we survive cuz we countrynever experience dis phenomenon before

Being a citizen from the Great Britain, decoding their vernacular was quite difficult for me.

My eyelids drooped with weariness. I covered my ears with my bare hands and slumped my head on my

knees, trying to reject the current situation. The waves were noisy. They rambled on and on as they

    demolished the lower two floors.

This building is not precarious! That was the only thought in my head as the building ripped off its

foundation and was plunged into the tsunamis strong current. The roof of the building flew as as the

    third floor began to sink.

Time fuh we tuh dead hun a man told his wife whilst hugging her tightly.

I wasnt going to give up that easily. I desperately clung on to the balcony railing praying I would survive.

Everyones cries were drowned out by the roaring and whistling of the tsunami. I never felt soo alone

before. I was even separated from my toy. My hand grew numb and my face, pale. I soon lost

    consciousness. Everyone drowned.

    Scene 2

No! My poor baby! a woman profusely wept, How am I to return without her? Why wasnt it me?

she continued exposing her bloodshot eyes.

That woman was my mother. In memory of me, she founded a tsunami research unit to prevent this

calamity from happening to anyone else.
