• Incubation period is about 5-15 days.

• Pathology and symptoms of trichinosis are consistent

with the developmental stages in the human

• Severity of the disease depends on

- human host age

- immunological status of host

- numbers of larvae ingested

• frequently reports from areas with :

- tropical weather

- poor sanitation practices

- among crowded population

(prison, kindergarten, etc.)

• Endemic areas of Thailand are in the

southern part.

• In 2002, estimated number of infected

persons was about 1 billion worldwide.

eating, particularly those that are grown in soil fertilized with

human feces (fertilizer).

• Complications :

cardiomyopathy, cerebral edema,

severe emaciation, cachexia and death
