dabu or mud resist printing, one of the oldest printing techniques in rajasthan, uses predominantly natural dyes and vegetable pastes for colours. To create the upholstery fabrics for the chairs on these pages, plain cotton dhurries were the blank canvases for the dabu printing process. The tribal designs were created by applying the special mud resist clay to the dhurry before being dyed. as this is all manually done, each dhurry has its own unique design and colour strength. hence, no two chairs will be the same either in colour or design.

This large cabinet comes in two parts and draws heavily on the influence of traditional Japanese tansu chests. The clean lines enable it to blend in with many styles and the deep drawers provide plenty of storage.

we loved the round button-back sofa in linen so much that we have used the same model for suzani upholstery. The front is upholstered in a vintage uzbek suzani with co-ordinating velvet buttons and the back is upholstered in natural linen. each piece is unique and is upholstered in a one-off suzani. Each vintage recycled fabric has passed through the hands of various crafts people as well as having had a life: each piece will almost certainly have small marks, stains, holes or other imperfections. These should not be considered faults: rather, they are characteristic of your vintage upholstered item.
