The Trials of an Engineer
The Customer had a requirement…
With an offer we couldn’t refuse…
And with our Sales team ‘in line’ for
commission…
The contract was as good as done.
So the design was ‘discussed’ with
Engineering…
Who duly considered the specification…
And under good management
direction…
Applied effective teamwork…
To make all the pieces come together…
Towards a final solution…
Then with normal cooperation with other
departments…
And even ‘assisted’ cooperation with
other departments…
Combined with full design freedom…
And a clear understanding of the
timeframe…
(Design) (Marketing)
A project plan was put together…
With achievable milestones &
realistic timescales.
As always, a few ‘obstacles’ were
encountered along the way…
And unit profit margin was adjusted to
correct earlier optimism…
Various options were then considered…
Indeed all options!
The work place was a stress-free
environment.
And ‘state-of-the-ark’ equipment was
always reliable in demanding conditions…
Engineers would be so busy that
5 o/c going home was never noticed…
Finally the design was ‘passed’ over to
Production with a clear direction
forward…
Where it was processed, ready for the
shop floor…
To enable the Production Team to get to
work immediately as time was of essence...
While the occasional problem could be a
bomb-shell, it was always handled
carefully...
(Design) (Production)
A list of changes, if required, was always
minor in nature…
Indeed the performance predicted by
Engineering…
Could ‘always’ be achieved by
Production…
But at the end of the day the job would
Pass inspection, & be ready to ship…
The Team effort was rewarded with
thoughts of a shared sense of winning…
And we could all go home Friday
knowing we had worked hard & could
look forward…
To doing it all again on Monday!…
A career in Engineering?
You know it makes sense.
