    A trio of Tri-Cities soccer players had theirhands or more specifically, their feet inonwhats being billed as amomentous win forthe UBC soccer program.The Thunderbirds easily defeated the

    Simon Fraser University Clan 3-0 in a non-conference game Saturday night, in a contestthat pitted the defending CIS champs againstthe NCAA Division II semifinalists.Some of the pieces instrumental to that

    win have roots in the Tri-Cities, as Coquitlamnatives Milad Mehrabi and Paul Clerc bothtallied in the win, while Port Moody nativeRichard Meister collected the clean sheet inthe UBC nets.UBC held the edge both on the scoresheet

    and statistically, as the T-Birds earned 10corner kicks to the Clans two, while also out-shooting SFU 16-9.Its a terrific win, its a huge win against

    a good opponent and thats a major positivefor this group going forward, UBC headcoach Mike Mosher said in a press release. Ithought it was a very solid performance fromour group. We didnt give up many chancesthrough the course of the game. We kept aclean sheet so thats a positive as well.Mehrabi scored what proved to be the game

    winner in the 20thminute, after taking a crossfrom Port Moodys Navid Mashinchi near thetop of the penalty area and depositing the 1-0goal.Clerc, who patrols UBCs back line, added

    to the lead in the 47th minute after headinghome a Bryan Fong volley to make it 2-0.Mashinchi then assisted on the final tally,

    a cross that Vancouver native Niall Cousensconnected with to seal the 3-0 win.I thought Milad really worked hard and

    had a strong game, Mosher said.

    Ducks get it done at u-16sThree players from the

    Coquitlam Ducks volleyballprogram have hit provincialpaydirt.Setter Hayley Meynard

    helped B.C. Blue team cap-ture under-16 gold at therecently-held Western EliteVolleyball Championships in

    Regina, Sask.Meynard was joined on

    the championship side byher Riverside Secondarycoach Alym Makhani, whilefellow Rapids teammatesTaryn Toscani and MirandaDinwoodie suited up for thefifth-place B.C. Red team.

    B.C. Blue defeated AlbertaBlue 3-1 in the champion-ship final, after downing B.C.Red and Alberta White in theplayoff bracket.B.C. Red, on the other

    hand, claimed wins overSaskatchewan and Manitobain finishing fifth.
