Teacher Education Enrolment and Graduation

Process: Public universities: Audited 2016 enrolment and graduation data were obtained from the HEMIS officers and Faculties/Schools of Education at the universities and from the national directorate responsible for HEMIS, with a view to enabling triangulation. Where discrepancies were found between the different data sources, these were followed up and clarified/corrected. Private higher education institutions: The Department of Higher Education and Training sends a template to private higher education institutions that are offering teacher education programmes, and the completed templates are used to summarise the private higher education institution data presented in this report. The data is this report represent a snap-shot of one year (2016) in a dynamic system that is changing rapidly as emphasis is being placed on strengthening and shaping teacher education in the country to better meet the needs in the country. In addition, by the time the data is finalised, it is already dated. This must be taken into account when use is made of the data presented in this report. The data trends presented in this document should therefore be regarded as indicative rather than definitive.
