OLD COLLEGIANS RUGBY UNION CLUB
Tregenza Times
Welcome to 2020!
New Year 2020Unfortunately for many it has not been a “Happy” new year at all. And on behalf of the Old Collegians family we extend our sincere best wishes to those members, families, friends and businesses that have been affected by the Adelaide Hills and Kangaroo Island bushfires.
There are several community fundraising events happen-ing in the coming weeks and we encourage everyone to support these activities, purchase local hills and KI goods, wines, crafts etc to assist with the recovery of these regions.
When was the last time you visited these areas! We tend not to play tourist in our home town. So “head to the hills” peoples, visit the Cudlee Creek cafe, have lunch at the Lobethal Hotel, buy some chocolates from Melba’s. Show them we care!

Message from the Editor
I am pleased to have been asked to continue producing the OC Newsletter for 2020. As you would have noticed in 2019 we tried to make our Newsletter OC community minded including information regarding our members, not just March Reports:
Special occasions Milestone birthdays Anniversaries Births Looking for Work notices Items for Sale
This season we would like to include Coach & Player Profiles—not just of the First Grade but all grades right down to the JPP’s.
So don’t be shy! Write a paragraph or two about your life on and off the field and send in with a photo.

The Feathers Hotel
Like everyone, we are devastated by the bushfires raging across Australia and including the Adelaide Hills Wine region.
On Sunday 2nd of February we have offered affected winer-ies the opportunity to hold a Pop Up Cellar Door, as our way of trying to assist and provide a way to bring the affected cellar doors to you!
Featuring wineries including Henschke, Vinteloper,
Tilbrook Estate, Golding, Petaluma, Simon Tolley, Geoffrey Weaver, ArtWine and Barrister’s Block, whether you’re into bubbles, whites or reds, there will be a massive range of varietals and styles on hand for you to try before you buy!
We will be pouring Adelaide Hills wineries all day long, and you’ll have the opportunity to take home wines direct from the wineries and help to support them directly.
We will have an Adelaide Hills themed food menu for the day, and will be reaching out to affected producers to sup-port them also, while providing sumptuous local fare!
Tickets will be $10 each, including a glass of Adelaide Hills wine from the bar, and the purchase price will then be do-nated to the Adelaide Hills Wine Region Fire Appeal
Look forward to seeing you and joining in helping our grow-ers through this testing period, and supporting our friends in the Adelaide Hills!
Howard VineyardWe have lost around 30% of our Lobethal vineyard due to the fires and the damage that they caused. This would usually make up to 100 tonnes worth of wine grapes. Many have lost so much more.
Yes, our Crush event is kid friendly, just a quick reminder of how the ticketing for Crush 2020 works:The 'ticket' is your Crush glass (yours to keep) which gets you entry to our event, and all other general entry Crush events across the Adelaide Hills. That glass is the only glass that can be filled with wine across the festival.Children DO NOT need one of these glasses to enjoy the weekend, therefore entry for kids to our event is FREE.

Old Collegians players flying the 'OC' Flag overseas!
The following players headed 'North' after the end of the 2019 Season to continue playing rugby during the close season and beyond. Here's a quick update on how they are 'travelling' .
Benny Blackhall - Our ever present Premier Grade front rower through 2019 has joined Scarborough RUFC a club based on the East Coast of Yorkshire. Scarborough RUFC currently compete in the 'North One East' competition of the Northern Division of the English Rugby tier and enjoy games against the likes York, Brad-ford, Durham and Huddersfield to name but a few. Scarborough's season has seen a mixed bag of results, which sees them sitting at 7th out of 14th in their league and midway point of the season. Alas Benny was unfortunate to receive a serious injury after only three games and post surgery on a broken ankle is now storming his way through rehab.
Brad Killick - A player in our Premier Reserve premiership winning team in 2019 has joined Southend RUFC a club based to east of London. Southend RUFC currently compete in the "London North 1' competition of the London and South East Division of the English Rugby tier and enjoy games against the likes of Brent-wood, Colchester, Sudbury and Woodford. Southend RUFC currently sit at 3rd out of 14th in their league and are vying for promotion to the London & South East Premier Division. Brad recently made is debut for Southend RUFC and after coming off the bench proceeded to score one of his trademark tries after running an angle off the back of a ruck from 5 metres out and better still he'd only been on the park for two minutes. Brad is expected back to take part in the 2020 Season for Old Collegians in mid April.
Ollie Horne - Ex Junior Club Captain of Old Collegians and more recently a member of the Marley Marlins has joined the Stirling County RUFC a club based in Scotland. Stirling County RUFC currently compete in the Scottish Super 6 League, which is a stepping stone, for a number of franchise rugby clubs, between the Amateur ranks or Scottish Rugby and the professional Scottish clubs competing in the Pro 14 League. Stirling County RUFC have had a difficult start to the season and are currently sitting in 5th place on the Ladder and compete against the likes of the Watsonians, Heriots and Boroughmuir. Reports suggest Ollie is excelling at his new club and really looking forward to the second half of the season.

Vale Trish Jones
It is with great sadness that we pass on the news that Trish Jones passed away recently.
Trish along with her husband Trevor were long time supporters of the Crippled Crows, attending many of the World Golden Oldies Festivals. They have also been great participants in many of our social activities over the years.
Trish has stoically battled cancer for some time now and finally succumbed to the evil disease.I am sure you will join us in sending our sincerest condolences to Trevor at this very sad time.
RIP Trish.John Markwick, Crippled Crows
Crippled Crows are off to the World Golden Oldies in Denver 2020. Not too late to get on board!
