Tokyo

Tokyo – Yokohama – Diamond Princess CruiseDay 3**Oct 15

We start our adventure by boarding an international flight to Tokyo, the capital city of Japan, and one of the most populous metropolitan areas in the world. Meals and snacks will be served on the plane.

Upon arrival at Narita International Airport, an Air & Sea Travel representative will greet us and escort us to our hotel.

This morning, we will transfer to Osanbashi Passenger Terminal to embark on the newly renovated Diamond Princess Cruise Ship. The ship boasts 700 balconies, perfect for capturing incredible landscapes and intriguing city skylines across the globe. As one of only two Princess Cruise ships built in Japan, it’s not surprising this unique vessel can often be found sailing to the most intriguing vacation destinations abroad.

Day 18**Oct 30 Yokohama – Tokyo Honolulu

Arrive at Osanbashi Passenger Terminal. After disembarking, we will transfer to Tokyo for last minute shopping. We will visit Tsukiji Market, the largest wholesale market for fresh fish, fruits, and vegetables in central Tokyo. Over ten warehouses serve as the distribution centers for food products. Handling 2000 tons of marine products every day, it has become one of the world’s largest fish markets. We can enjoy our lunch here and try the fresh seafood. After that, we will transfer to Odaiba and visit the 19-meter tall Gundam RX 0 Statue, one of the most significant comic attractions in Japanese cartoon (manga) industry. Today Odaiba is a popular shopping and sightseeing destination for local residents and tourists alike. Enjoy our last minute shopping time here before transferring to Narita International Airport for our return flight to Honolulu, taking with us the lasting memories of this wonderful Cruise to Far East Asia.

Oct 17 (Thu) Japan – Kagoshima Tour with Shopping (4 Hours)

Kagoshima lies at the top of the Satsuma Peninsula, a mountainous, geothermal wonderland of hot springs and geysers. The area is also rich in modern Japanese history. Upon arrival at the port of Kagoshima, we will transfer to Shiroyama Park. Shiroyama, also called Castle Mountain, is a 107-meter hill located in the center of Kagoshima city. Its name comes from the fact that it was once the site of a castle. The observatory located at the end of the promenade is a magnificent photo spot overlooking Mt. Sakurajima and Kinko Bay. After that, we will go to our favorite shop, Daiso at Frespo Jungle Park. Daiso is a large franchise of 100-yen shops founded in Japan. It offers a wide array of goods, including clothing, kitchenware, food and stationery on four floors at 105 yen per item. We can spend our entire time shopping here. Enjoy free time to shop prior to our relaxing and scenic drive back to our ship.

Oct 19 (Sat) China – Xiamen Gulangyu Highlights (5 Hours)

Xiamen is a port city on China’s southeast coast, across a strait from Taiwan. Upon arrive at the port, we will take the ferry to Gulangyu Island, a National Scenic Spot and one of Xiamen's most popular tourist attractions. The island's idyllic environment is in itself a national treasure, one that is actively protected by a mandate against gas powered vehicles. We will explore the island in golf carts that will provide panoramic views of the countryside. Then, we will stop at Piano Museum. As a place of residence for Westerners during Xiamen's colonial past, Gulangyu is famous for its architecture and for hosting China's only piano museum, giving it the nickname of "Piano Island" or "The Town of Pianos" or "The Island of Music". There are over 200 pianos on this island. We can also visit the Gulandyu History Museum. After that, enjoy your time before we take the ferry back to the ship.

Shore Excursions 2

Oct 21 (Mon) Vietnam – Best of Da Nang (7 Hours)

Da Nang is the biggest commercial, educational and transportation hub of this part of Vietnam, but before its modern incarnation, this region was part of the Champa Kingdom, which ruled here between the 7th and early 19th centuries. Some descendants of this kingdom, the Cham people, still live in this region and speak a distinct Malayo-Polynesian language. First, we will transfer to Marble Mountain Village, one of the premier attractions in Da Nang. This group of five striking limestone and marble hills marks the site of caves, temples and, at its base, lovely gardens and a stone-carving village, where sculptors create beautiful artwork from the local marble. Explore the Marble Mountains Cave of Heaven & Hell to admire the many altars carved into stone in the depths of the mountain. Conclude our day with a relaxing visit to Marble Mountain Beach where you'll enjoy refreshments and the natural beauty of this spot that was made famous during the Vietnam War, when American GIs spent time swimming and surfing on their off-hours at this glorious stretch of golden sand. Now, the beach attracts surfers and tourists from around the world. After enjoying the famous traditional Vietnamese Noodles Lunch, we will have a brief visit at the bustling Han Market before heading back to the pier. Originally a small trading post during Vietnam's time under French control, it has developed into a large marketplace offering flowers, footwear, fabrics, and fruit at excellent prices.

Oct 22 (Tue) Vietnam – Halong Bay Cruise (3.5 Hours)

With an armada of mythical islands rising from sheltered waters and a necklace of emerald lagoons joined by low-slung limestone caves, Halong Bay creates the kind of beauty that is truly one-of-a-kind. We will meet our captain and crew when we will step aboard the Halong Bay version of a classic local junk. Junks were efficient and sturdy ships that sailed long distances as early as the 2nd century A.D. They incorporated numerous technical advances in sail plan and hull design that were later adopted in Western shipbuilding. Glide across the tranquil bay immersed in the exceptional beauty of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Words can barely describe the unique topography created over millions of years by the natural processes of uplift and erosion. Ancient legend casts a magical light on how the region came to be. When Vietnam was in its infancy, it was beset by invaders so the gods enlisted the help of a family of dragons. The dragons spit jewels and jade on the waters, creating rugged islands upon which the enemy's boats were destroyed. After the victory, the mother dragon and her babies decided to live forever more in Halong, adding to the beauty of this unbelievable sea scape. Marvel as the island silhouettes magically change with the angle of light and viewpoint, adding continual interest to your leisurely cruise.

Take time to peruse shops for souvenirs of our peak visit. Board a sampan for a short tour of the calm waters of the Inner Harbor among the countless boats there. Step aboard one of the famous floating restaurants for our lunch, famous Cantonese Dim Sum. Dim Sum is originally from Canton, and prepared as small bite-sized portions of food served in small steamer baskets or on small plates. After lunch, we will enjoy shopping in Stanley Market. The street is a typical example of a traditional old open-air market in Hong Kong and has since become a major tourist attraction. Enjoy free time to browse, shop or just sightsee. After that, we will go to Repulse Bay, a bay in the southern part of Hong Kong Island, located in the Southern District of Hong Kong. It is one of the most expensive residential areas in Hong Kong.

It was almost completely destroyed in 1945 during the Battle of Okinawa. In 1992, it was reconstructed on the original site based on photographs, historical records, and memory. One might be in for a surprise as the architecture of the castle is very different from other Japanese castles. After that, we can enjoy our shopping at Kokusai Dori, literally "International Road", is Naha's main street, stretching for roughly two kilometers through downtown Naha.
