As a celebration to welcome the spirits of the Nine Gods who will descend upon the Earth through the spirit mediums, the Nine Emperor Gods Festival (Kew Ong Yeah) in Penang features vegetarian food bazaars, flamboyant float processions and religious rituals such as skewering and fire walking ceremonies. Over the first nine days of the ninth month in the lunar calendar, devotees observe a strict vegetarian diet to purify themselves and fulfill their vows. On the last day, a procession starting from the temple grounds to the nearby shores will be held to send off the deities, where a boat decorated with gold paper will be set ablazed and released into the sea. http://mypenang.gov.my/events.aspx ?page=item-2675.pgt

One of the biggest and most celebrated occasion in Myanmar’s Shan State, the Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival at Inle Lake is held with great fanfare each year with plenty of food, entertainment and traditional music and dance. For nearly three weeks in October, four sacred images of the Buddha from Hpaung Daw U Pagoda are ceremonially rowed around the Lake on a decorated royal barge and accompanied by a procession of long canoes with hundreds of leg-rowers, stopping at each village to let people pay homage. Another highlight of the festival is the exhilarating Shan traditional boat races where representatives from various villages dressed in their national costumes will team up and use the tradition leg-rowing skill to win the race.

exquisite detailing and every beautiful carving a reminder of the sheer skill of the craftsmen who built this monument. As you leave this almost magical place, you will still be in awe of the grandeur of this mausoleum built in the name of love.

The Pink CityLast on the agenda has to be Jaipur, the ‘Pink City’. This unique name is attributed to parts of the city being largely built with its iconic pink stone. The abundant streets and colourful markets give Jaipur its unique charm that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Jaipur is pretty much “India in a nutshell”, as the city is both chaotic yet beautiful,

bursting at the seams with life and bombards your senses in ways that can only be described as surreal. Being a part of this swirling mass of culture and beauty is truly a humbling experience.

At the end of the day, when you’ve had your fill of looking at the typical tourist attractions, we recommend getting lost in the narrow winding roads, as you try all the food you can find, talk to the locals and visit every little shop you come across, because that is where you will find the true heart of India.

For decades, India has been the ultimate destination for travel junkies. Every year, tourists rush to India in the millions to witness the exotic sights and sounds and eventually lose themselves to the overflowing richness of culture that India has to offer. But for anyone to embark on this monumental journey, there are 3 key places which simply cannot be missed.

History Around Every CornerThe first place on the list has to be Delhi, the capital of India. The city of Delhi is the perfect example of how the old can co-exist with the new. On the one hand there is history to be told around every corner with monuments like the old fort Purana Quila and the India Gate littered all over the city, but on the other hand, there are also mega malls where you can indulge yourself in world-class retail therapy. Just hop on board the New Delhi metro, which is one of the largest metro systems in the world, and it will take you to your desired destination. Everything you could possibly hope for in a holiday can be found in this remarkable city.

The Mausoleum of LoveThe next spot that every self-respecting traveller must visit is Agra, just 200km away from Delhi that can be easily accessed by the railroad systems. Agra is home to the iconic Taj Mahal, which was built to house the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan’s beloved wife. From the moment you step into the Taj Mahal, you will be enthralled by the grand architecture, with every wall covered in

VIEW OF SOESOKKAK, FAMOUS PLACE IN JEJU ISLAND

SEONGSAN SUNRISE PEAK

Holistic fun for the whole family For young families where parents tend to wrestle with a holiday plan that would keep their children excited in tandem with their needs for some nature, solace or shopping, Seoul and Jeju offer everything your heart desires. Get away from the city buzz and feel nature’s warm hugs amidst the wintry chimes as you head down to Seongsan Sunrise Peak. At 182 metres above sea level, you will be treated to a panoramic view over a land mass that rose in a volcanic eruption over 100,000 years ago and some of the many interesting spots to visit later. Before your children get restless, head down to Jeju Aqua Planet – Asia’s largest aquarium that houses over 48,000 rare animals and plants from all five oceans.

The fun continues at the Trick Art Museum, the country’s first museum to show optical illusion art with a distinctive Korean curatorship, with different

themed sections that will keep the children running around in excitement. For more interaction with still-life, parents can also check out the Teseum Safari that exhibits a wide range of teddy bears and stitched dolls shaped like animals, marine species, flowers, birds and many others.

Moving on to the real objective of ‘feeling local’, a visit to Jeju Folk Village Museum is a must to experience the old-school nostalgia of the 1890s and a highlight of the Korean ancestral customs of the golden days. The flavour of local life will be not be complete without a walk through the Tangerine Farm. Here, extract the sweetness of Jeju Island by picking the zesty tangerines (Noji) personally. Next, witness the awe-inspiring Horse Show where the smooth gallantry performance by the horses highlights the concepts of birth, growth, friendship, love, war and peace as embodied by Genghis

Boosted by its worldwide media and entertainment

diaspora, South Korea is now reputably a top travel

destination that rose through the ranks via genuine

cultural outreach to share its unique blend of old

heritage keepsakes and modern fashion trends.

However, beyond being enticed by the picturesque

places and high-octane shopping opportunities as

featured across numerous travel documentaries

on television, a frequent traveller may wonder if it

is possible to experience Korea like a local. Embrace

a week’s break from the mundane routines of

work and family commitments as you ramble from

Seoul to Jeju Island and explore like a local. Take

time to seek out some of the best wonders of the

country and unravel the treasure troves often

overlooked by the average schedule-fulfilling

tourist. You will be surprised by what you’ll find as

you trek across the country the native way.

Khan. Starring the descendants of the Mongolian hero who have come to Jeju from Mongolia, you would not want to miss this highlight show, ‘The Black Flag of Genghis Khan’. Last but not least, the ladies can let loose their shopping needs and wants at the Skin Anniversary Beauty Town, where they can enjoy a personal beauty session and receive skin care lessons, analysis and facial treatments. Men and children need not wait endlessly as they can enjoy the Tricky Art Zone and Teddy Bear Gallery within the vicinity, or indulge in a sumptuous ‘Bibimbap’ buffet lunch at the restaurant in the meantime.

Rustic Korean WinterWhat is winter without some snow? A wintry Korean holiday will see you joining the locals with a visit to the mountains even amidst the chilling

winds, which is regarded as a form of spiritual healing. Deemed as one of Korea’s most beautiful national parks, the Mt. Sorak National Park glows with its lush valleys, dense forests and shiny granite peaks. To get a touch of the fluffy snow, book a ski tour and learn to manoeuvre down the steep, white slopes with the guidance of experienced instructors from the ski resort.

Keep the fun going as you reach another magical spot – the Everland, which is one of the world’s most popular outdoor amusement parks. Featuring a wide spectrum of exciting activities, the amusement park hosts numerous thrill rides such as the Hurricane, Corkscrew and Double Loops. For the faint-hearted, you may wish to visit the Safari to rekindle your love for endangered animals, among which includes lions, tigers, bears and others native to Korea.

Living the Seoul Style Even if you aren’t born and bred in Seoul, you can live up the Seoul life with some smart planning, and discover every nook and cranny of the city during your holiday. Get on the artsy entertainment groove by watching the ‘Wedding Show’ and witness the genius adaptation of the non-verbal performance by a bevy of actors dancing, singing and acting along with the accompaniment of over 20 musical instruments. Directed by the musical producer of the global Broadway hit, ‘Nanta’, the performance will give you a glimpse of family drama surrounding a traditional Korean wedding. A visit to the Dongdaemun Market will present you with the sounds, sights and rhythms of the food, must-have home goodies and high-strung conversations of street topics exchanged by the locals. If you have already mastered the art of

kimchi making and learnt about the history and nutrition of kimchi at the Kimchi School, try donning a traditional Hanbok to haggle for a huge purchase of kimchi to be shared with your friends back home.

See the soul of the city from a height of 236.7m at the Seoul Tower atop Namsan Mountain, where you can marvel at the seamless integration of ancient structures and high-rise buildings, as well as people-watch as they go about their endless activities. The Seoul spirit can be so endearingly influential that even your eating habits will sway towards the authentic Korean style, such as ordering the traditional Korean pancake as a side dish at every meal. Whether it’s indulging yourself with gastronomical delicacies or chasing the latest fashion finds, Korea is a place that keeps your travel mojo going and leaves you wanting more.

Do not panic if you have missed your stop along Seoul’s intricate transportation routes. Instead, rejoice that you were actually destined to explore rare finds at some of the most unassuming shopping malls located underground at the city’s bustling railway stations and bus terminals. Check out these shoppers’ secret hideouts at your next stop and lose yourself in the endless shopping possibilities.

Jamsil Underground Shopping CentreAdventure shopping in Seoul means hitting the humongous malls to finding rare gems at smaller ‘boutique-feel’ malls. So when you are in Jamsil, the heart of the Seoul’s fashion district, you have to hit up the underground shopping mall for unique finds that can’t be bought from the other stores above ground. Though it has only about 135 shops, the Jamsil Underground Mall is still a wonderful maze of special nooks and corners where lovely deals can unexpectedly spring from modest shops. Even if you’re not one for shopping, you will also leave with satisfied tummies as the mall offers various local and foreign-inspired delicacies.

Lucky to Be Lost Underground in Seoul!

Yeongdeungpo Underground MallIf you have the whole family with you, Yeong-deungpo Underground Mall is the must-hit place to make up for lost shopping time in between train or bus transfers. From cool teenage trends to casual or smart-wear for the senior folks, the mall offers a complete range of fashion fixes for varying ages. Located at the crossroads of traffic madness with people transiting from different areas or making a pit stop before the Times Square Mall, this place is best navigated via three major sections. Trendy grandparents can focus on the stores located closest to the Yeongdeungpo Market for some old-school glamour wear, while the younger ones can begin their shopping anywhere from the centre to the section in between Yeongdeungpo Station and Times Square for hip, in-style clothes.

Express Bus Terminal Underground Mall, Goto MallWith close to 600 exciting stores, Goto Mall is undoubtedly Seoul’s largest underground shopping mall that serves every women’s needs with their huge selection of accessories, cosmetics, house-hold products, whole sale fresh goods and the most sought-after fashion finds. Namdaemun markets, you need not haggle too hard for the items you desire as prices are comparatively cheaper here. Gangnam Terminal Underground Shopping CenterClad yourself in chic Gangnam style fashion accessories and suave clothes (consider them a smart investment) at the myriad of tastefully decorated shops here. When shopping in Seoul, you can’t possibly miss out on purchasing a high-fashion piece that feels intricately well-made, thanks to Gangnam’s reputation for exquisite quality. A popular beach destination located a mere stone’s throw away from Bangkok, Hua Hin holds plenty of surprises in store for even the most seasoned traveller

Looking for a new destination to explore without burning a hole in your pocket? Forget cliché destinations like Bali or Phuket; Hua Hin is the ideal place to be for some fun in the sun with a dash of adventure and history on the side. A welcome change of pace from the incessant activity of Bangkok – the heart of Thailand, the laid-back atmosphere along with the warm-hearted friendliness of the locals makes Hua Hin an irresistible location for a short, relaxing getaway.

A sight to beholdThough lesser known among tourists, Hua Hin is one of the most popular weekend getaway destination for the city locals, especially couples and families. This is partly due to Hua Hin’s heritage as the Royal Family’s favourite summer retreat, so much so that King Rama VII decided to build a summer palace here in the 1920s. Till this day, the estate remains as the primary royal residence of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and is only accessible by invitation only.

You can also make a trip to the elegant Mrigadayavan Palace found in the sleepy town of Cha-am. A mammoth estate comprising of 16 golden teak buildings that are all interconnected by verandas built on stilts where visitors can enjoy the natural sea breeze.

Covering an extensive 2.26 km2 of countryside, the vineyard is home to the award-winning Monsoon Valley wine label as well as range of other labels. The special highlight here is not the actual wine-tasting itself, but the unique vineyard tour where you can choose to ride on an elephant’s back or tour by bicycle. Perched on the side of the hill is the open-air pavilion, The Sala, where you can settle into the evening with a glass of wine and magnificent views overlooking the entire vineyard and the surrounding valleys.

As Japan’s gateway to Asia, Kyushu is blessed with breath-taking natural landscape as well as modern bustling cities. It is also made up of a multitude of natural landforms and one of them is the caldera in Mount Aso, which allows for a large number of onsens (hot springs). Endowed with beautiful coastlines and captivating natural wonders, Kyushu is one of the most famous tourist spots in Japan. Due to its sub-tropical climate, travelling in this place is a lighter experience and tourists will no doubt have a spectacular time and this hidden gem only gets more magnificent as winter falls.

Mount Aso The famous Mount Aso is actually a huge volcanic crater located in central Kyushu. It stretches across the Kumamoto Prefecture and Oita Prefecture and is the world’s largest crater with a diameter of more than 25km and a circumference up to 100km. This giant crater is surrounded by high mountains that provide breath-taking landscapes, and you can travel to and fro by cable car from Ruoyo up to the peak of Mountain Aso at a station located right at the edge of the glorious crater.

Kumamoto Encased in cloudless blue skies, lush green meadows, endless mountains and crystal clear oceans, exploring the Kumamoto Prefecture is like being in a dream. About 60% of the prefecture is covered in lush green forests, which create the crystal-clear fresh water that seeps down through the surrounding cities. The population of about one million people living in the city of Kumamoto drink and bathe using this natural mineral water from the ground.

Kumamoto is also widely considered to be a treasure trove of cuisines due to the abundance of seafood and agriculture harvested from the area.

Fukuoka Fukuoka, sometimes referred to as the Port of Dazaifu, is Japan’s 6th largest city and was praised for being one of the top 10 most liveable places in the world due to its integration of metropolitan living and an abundance of green spaces. Fukouka sits on the northern shore of Kyushu where the Korean Peninsula and Mainland China are visible in the distance. No trip to Fukouka is complete without visiting the “Dazaifu” that dates back to the year 1300 when it was the office of the Chief Administrator of Kyushu. The impressive interior décor of the “Dazaifu” gives visitors an idea of the prosperity during that period and it remains as an iconic tourist attraction in Fukuoka Prefecture.

Beppu Hot Springs The abundance of hot springs is one of the characteristics of Kyushu, and Beppu Hot Springs is one of Japan’s most famous hot springs. There are many hot spring hotels in Beppu, each with their own unique characteristics.

The hot springs of Beppu are rich in natural minerals and it is believed that there are more than 2000 hot springs there. Beppu’s hot spring output is ranked second in the world, after the Yellow Stone National Park in the US, but it is the world’s top in terms of usage in hot spring baths.

Stay Safe with TravelocKeep your luggage secure as you jet across the globe

With more than 20 years of experience in the security seal industry, the Managing Director of Titan DSB has successfully innovated, designed and developed the Traveloc with luggage safety in mind for its consumers. Generally, security seals are mainly used in industries such as airlines, banks, security guarding companies, shipping, logistics and gaming.

Titan DSB had officially launched the TRAVELOC during the MITM Travel Fair in Kuala Lumpur this year.

New Innovation and InspirationThese days, we tend to read in the news and media about cases where tourists are accused of smuggling, but we often overlook the fact that these kinds of circumstances occur when your luggage has been tampered with or compromised.

A high profile example is the case which happened in Bali, Indonesia. Miss Corby, an Australian citizen, was convicted of smuggling 4.1 kg of marijuana into Bali, Indonesia. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison even though she had claimed that she was innocent throughout the trial. After serving nine years in prison, Miss Corby was released on parole in year 2014 due to psychological and mental problems. Under her parole conditions, Miss Corby cannot leave Bali until July 2017.

Research and survey shows that majority of travellers are unaware of such luggage safety and security issues. The conventional locks and TSA locks have always been the “security protection factor” for luggage while travelling. However, these conventional locks and TSA locks available in the market can be opened and re-locked without trace.

Thus, after years of research, Titan DSB has developed a combination of padlock with tamper evident and security seal features. The brand name of this unique product is the TRAVELOC. With the tamper evident feature, the user can identify any tampering to the luggage with just a quick visual check.

Should your luggage be compromised or tampered, immediately inform and declare to the Airport Authorities that your luggage had been compromised and request for a 100% inspection to the luggage. By declaring to the Airport Authorities, travellers can safeguard themselves from unnecessary prosecution should any illegal or prohibited items or substances be found in their luggage.

This October, see your worst nightmare come to life as Universal Studios Singapore bring back Halloween Horror Nights for its 5th installment. From 2 to 31 October 2015, experience an adrenaline- fuelled night of local terrors, especially at the event’s first ever dark house.

Perhaps you can accept invitation from the master paper effigy maker to visit his menacing abode, the Hell House. When the gates of hell reopens, the paper dolls will rule to unleash wraths of the underworld.

Don’t forget to catch the last train at True Singapore Ghost Stories: The MRT. In collaboration with local ghost writer, Russell Lee, original stories featuring Pontianak, Toyol and other familiar characters have been specially created for Halloween Horror Nights 5 to depict tales of paranormal sightings on the train.

Stay Warm and ToastyIf you’ve booked a winter holiday but have completely no clue about how to pack for the cold and wet weather, here’s a quick guide to make sure you are well-prepared for a great experience in the snow

Wearing LayersLayering is the best way to dress for winter, as it allows you to add or remove insulation to adapt to changing weather conditions and different activity levels in winter. The basic three-tier protection comprises of the base layer (usually thermal wear), middle insulating layers and the outer layer for weather protection.

Base LayerIdeal base layers are usually long underwear or any comfortable, tight-fitting apparel made of fabrics such as merino wool, polyester, silk or other synthetic fibres that wicks moisture away from your skin. Never wear cotton as your base layer; it absorbs moisture and sticks to your skin, keeping you wet and cold no matter how many layers you wear on top of it. Accessories

It is important to keep vulnerable areas such as your head, nose, ears, neck, fingers and toes covered and insulated from the cold, as these areas are the first to be affected by frostbite and hypothermia should they be exposed to the cold and wind. Protect your head with winter hats and beanies made from wool, and keep your face and neck warm by using a scarf or a balaclava. A pair of winter gloves is also essential, and insulated mittens can keep your fingers warmer than gloves in extremely cold weather. Make sure to wear sturdy winter boots or insulated shoes and booties, paired with thick socks made from wool or fleece, to keep your feet and toes comfortable and warm.

Mid-LayersUse thicker fabrics like merino wool, fleece

or polyester in the form of a vest, sweater or

jacket, which you can take off or put on if the

weather changes.

Outer LayerIf you are expecting very wet or snowy conditions,

such as when you go skiing, look for waterproof,

breathable protection that can keep your body dry

and maintain. In this case, a down jacket made

from duck or goose down feathers or a ski jacket

are good options. For drier conditions, a fleece

jacket or soft shell outerwear should be sufficient.
