Trash Pandas to the Rescue
INFINITY CANCON 2018
TRASH PANDAS TO THE RESCUE Details to come …
DESCRIPTION Welcome to the Australian Infinity Championships! Join Infinity players from all across
Australia and New Zealand for a long weekend of dice fuelled carnage. Infinity at Cancon
2019, Trash Pandas to the Rescue, will be a mixed format event catering to both new and
experienced players so everyone can get the most out of premier infinity tournament of the
year!
In 2019 there will be 3 Infinity events:
1. The regular 2-day, 5 game standard ITS tournament on Sunday and Monday (9am-
5pm) to determine the Australian Champion!
2. An evening-only 3 game casual narrative event on the Saturday and Sunday evening
(5:30pm-10pm) focused on fun narrative missions.
3. Organised games of Aristeia on Saturday evening, with prizes
Players are able (and encouraged) to attend more than one event with a 3-day pass and battle
it out over the weekend. Those who only want the standard ITS experience can get a 2-day
pass. If you plan on going to seminars during the day, only like games with a narrative or just
want to dip your toes into infinity then the evening events are for you.
Players of all ages and skill levels are welcome! The narrative event in particular will be
beginner focused.
What to Bring: Models, Printed ITS legal army and courtesy lists, tape measure, tokens and
templates, ITS Season 10 classified objective deck, knowledge of the rules and a good
attitude.
Organisers: Mark Fabian, Deon Philip, Rob Cantrell, Tim Hall, Rid Sullivan, Rudolf
Spennerman, Aliba Dare

ITS FORMAT
For the 2 day ITS event we will be following the rules and missions set out in the current ITS
season at:
https://assets.infinitythegame.net/downloads/itsrules/season10/en/v1.0/season10.pdf
This will be a 5 round event using the ITS tournament scoring and Swiss matching (first
round will be randomly allocated).
Missions:
Missions were selected to be friendly to new players, varied and relatively open with regards
to what lists are viable across all five missions. They are below in the order of play:
1. Supremacy
2. Decapitation
3. Frontline
4. Supplies
5. Firefight
Army Lists: This will be a standard 300pt 6SWC event. Each player should bring 2 printed
lists made using https://army.infinitythegame.com/. Both lists must be the same ‘Vanilla’
faction or the same faction Sectorial. For example, 2 vanilla Pan Oceania lists or 2 Military
Orders lists, but NOT 1 vanilla Pan-O and 1 Military Orders list.
Players may choose either list depending on mission, classified objectives, table terrain and
opponent’s faction before initiative dice are rolled. (Full match procedure for new players is
outlined in greater detail below).
Grudges: Players may nominate a first round opponent for a grudge match (instead of the
random allocation) to ensure they get the chance to crush their favourite interstate rival.
Submit your name/ITSPIN and the name of your opponent via email to the tournament
organisers to register a grudge. Make sure you throw down gauntlet on the Infinity Australia
facebook page to generate hype!
NARRATIVE FORMAT The narrative event will be 3 rounds (2 on Saturday evening, 1 on Sunday evening). This
event will be using an escalation format, with round 1 at 200pts, round 2 at 300pts and round
3 will be 2v2 players with 200pts per player. You will be allocated a partner for the last round.
The narrative event is beginner friendly and designed for beer and pretzels players. If you
have a strong desire to win at all costs, maybe skip this one.
Missions: The missions will be custom designed and secret. Each player’s missions will be
secret and only known to them. There will be “events” triggered at the start of some turns in
some of the missions to keep things unpredictable and spicy. The missions will be revealed
each round, but you will be given clues at least a fortnight out from the event regarding the
nature of each mission so that you can prepare an appropriate list. You will be allowed one list
per mission for a total of 3 lists. The narrative event is meant to be beginner friendly, so
you’ll basically be able to bring whatever you might like for each mission.
Army Lists: Players will use 3 army lists, a 200pts, a 300pts and another 200pts for the dual
mission.
Lists will be made within army builder with the following modifications:
Soldier of Fortune – You may use a single out of faction mercenary. This cannot be
used to increase the AVA of a mercenary already available to your faction. If you
decide to use this mercenary, you are strongly encouraged to write them a 200-500
word back story describing why they are fighting for your faction. Note that the
mercenary in question does not necessarily need to be is not the named mercenary in
army builder—you can use that profile but create a whole new personality. For
example, you can use Saito Togan’s profile but develop an entirely new ninja
character. There will prizes for the best back story and best converted mercenary.
Spec Ops – Your army may include a 16XP spec ops character which can be made
using the spec ops option in infinity army builder. The Spec Ops may be your Lt. They
cannot join a link team. Nor can they have more than one specialist class unless they
are a doctor + engineer, in which case they cannot have a support weapon and their
BS can be no more than 11. Your spec op should also have a 200-500 word back story
and prizes will be given for best story and best converted/painted spec ops character.

Step 3 – Submit Your Lists
Create your lists at https://army.infinitythegame.com/ and submit them to the tournament.
TERRAIN The tables are all generously provided by members of the community. If you are able to
provide a table please let us know—we would be most grateful, especially if you can set it up
in time for the Friday night event
CanCon will feature a wide variety of tables. Your lists should be designed to be able to
operate on different kinds of tables, especially with regards to density. Approximately 25% of
tables will be dense, 50% medium (by the rulebook), 25% will be open. Below are some
pictures to help you appreciate what the densities refer to.
Tables will be set up to ensure that they do not invalidate any particular strategy. For example,
there will be terrain in contact with at least 3 out of 4 board edges to make it possible to
airborne infiltrate without being shot to pieces and TAGs will be able to move around freely.
Some tables may include terrain rules which will be clearly stated on the table. You can
choose to disregard these provided both players agree but we wouldn’t recommend it.
Players are encouraged to go over any possible ambiguities in terrain rules (such as if a
particular railing counts as cover etc.) before they start their game.
Please treat all the terrain with care and respect and let one of the TOs know if there are any
issues or broken parts so we can handle it.
DENSE
MEDIUM (Roughly as per the rulebook)
OPEN
RANDOM/CRAZY (there may be zero such tables at CanCon2019)
CONDUCT AND SPORTSMANSHIP Infinity is a game you play with your opponent as much as against them. It should always be
played in a friendly, fun and cooperative spirit. You may call over a TO if you need some
help or clarification or if you want to complain, but please try to first avoid drama and sort
out any issues out in a mutually agreeable manner with your opponent. Follow these
guidelines:
Don’t be a dick! Obviously, be pleasant, fair and friendly at all times. Don’t ever be
difficult, ill-mannered, or bad tempered. Don’t try to shoot people in the back arc
from in front (it’s a dick move and Corvus Belli have FAQ’d that it doesn’t work).
Do not argue with the TOs: You are entitled to debate rules with us, but once a
ruling has been made that’s it. We don’t volunteer our time for these things because
we love arguing. It’s actually the worst thing about the job.
Mark Troop Facing: This is now an ITS requirement! Unmarked Troopers default to
facing the way their head is looking, with your opponent’s interpretation of this taking
precedence.
Share Open Information: Describe each of your Troopers (and any relevant skills /
equipment) as soon as a Trooper is deployed / revealed, and anytime when asked.
Seek Agreement: Confirm judgement calls (e.g. if Line of Fire exists). Do this before
rolling dice.
Clarity: Allow your opponent to see dice rolls (and measurements). Your opponent
may ask you to reroll any dice result they don’t see.
Rules Disputes: If there is a rules dispute, sort it out together, check the rules or
clarify with a TO. Do not attempt to bully someone about the rules. Do not bull rush
someone with the rules.
Mistakes: Infinity is a complex game. Mistakes happen. Assume good faith and
resolve them in a fair and friendly way.
Intent: Be reasonable and err towards your opponent’s intent – especially if it is
explicitly declared. Equally, do not abuse intent in an unsportsmanlike way.
Play Fair: Inform your opponent of things they should reasonably know, or things
you think they may have forgotten so the game can proceed in the best spirit.
Especially observe this with new players.
Avoid slow play: The more time you take to make a decision the less time your
opponent has and the more pressure they are under to rush.
SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD AND DISQUALIFICATION After the final game, when you hand in your score sheet, you may circle one or two
opponents to nominate for the Sportsman award. The player with the most nominations will
win (ties broken by highest tournament placing). If, on the other hand, you believe an
opponent’s conduct is less than the required standard, you may anonymously report this to a
TO. Any player receiving such a report from more than one opponent may be disqualified
from receiving any award or placement, at the sole discretion of the TOs. No warning is
required.
MATCH PROCEDURE (FOR THOSE NEW TO TOURNAMENTS)
1. Tell your opponent what faction / sectorial you are playing.
2. Generate your classified objectives
3. Choose which list to play.
4. Make the lieutenant roll.
5. Deployment:
a. Allow your opponent to make hidden deployments, notes about the game etc.
in private (leave the table or turn around)
b. During your deployment take photos and/or make clear notes about Private
Information which may later be revealed to your opponent. Your opponent
may ask you to verify this information at game end, and you should provide it.
c. 10mins is sufficient time to deploy.
d. Deployment Infiltration rolls are Open Information (performed in front of your
opponent)
6. Exchange courtesy lists when you have finished deploying.
7. Play the game! Games have a time limit of 2 hours. Be able to play 3 player turns
with your force in 90 minutes reliably!
TIME KEEPING You need to be able to play your chosen force within the allocated time limit (2 hours). If you
run over time in more than half your games, you are playing too slowly (larger forces tend to
play slower). Playing your turns too slowly forces your opponents to rush in theirs, giving
them an inadvertent disadvantage. So we will have a soft “three strike” rule. After the second
game a player runs over time (i.e. they do not complete the full 3 turns—retreat counts as 3
turns) they will be given a warning. Thereafter, the result of any game that they win that does
not go the full three turns will be entered as a draw (i.e. both players will get 1 point).
We will endeavour to provide timing notices to help player keep to time. A warning will be
given after 20 mins to signal deployment should be completed. A further warning will be
given at the 1 hour mark (40 mins after deployment). At this point you should be into the
second players’ turn to be on time to finish (if not, hurry!). Further time warnings will be
given with 30mins to go (aim to be done with 2nd turns) and 15 mins to go (be well into 3rd
turns).
PAINTED FORCES, PROXIES, AND WYSIWYG Painted forces are appreciated, encouraged and admired (with many players completing a
force specifically for the tournament) but not required. Proxying Troops without models is
necessary & expected. Otherwise reasonable Proxy models (same base size, similar troop
type, similar weapon, never one type of model representing two different Troop types) are not
encouraged but accepted. Corvus Belli has official proxy rules in the ITS document – read
them.
PRIZES Both the 2 day ITS tournament and the evening event will include prizes, most of which are
generously donated from our sponsors. Prize support at CanCon Infinity tends to be lush.
The ITS tournament prizes will be allocated based on placing and votes for
sportsmanship/painting. Prizes will mostly be for winning games.
The evening event will mainly give out prizes for hobby-related items and to encourage
players to get into the spirit of the narrative. This may include cinematic missions such as:
Ice to meet you: appear from hidden deployment and shoot 3 targets in the same order.
Operation Zero Dawn: kill someone using a tactical bow.
As a general guide the prizes will be:
ITS 1st place “The Champ.”
ITS 2nd place, 3rd place.
Best painted.
Best sportsmanship.
Best Table/Terrain.
Prizes for narrative character story and conversion
Prizes for narrative cinematic moments and achievements.
100% of entry fees that don’t go towards booking the venue go to prize support. Our very
generous sponsors have provided a number of items including gift cards, terrain, miniatures
and more.
The Champ will receive an ITS Season 10 tournament winners pack, a range of other prizes,
and automatic entry to the world championship—the 2018 Interplanetary held in Vigo Spain
(travelling and staying at your own expense).
