The programme encompasses a holistic
approach to improving academic
outcomes. This includes learner support,
teacher development and sports talent
development
Whole School
The Transnet Foundation’s two healthcare trains,
Phelophepa I and II, are designed to provide
comprehensive primary healthcare to
communities.. The programme also covers
sanitary and lifeskills support to both boys and
girls.
Health
Through adhoc financial and non financial support,
Transnet provides immediate assistance and relief to
communities through once off funding and material
contribution to assist poverty stricken communities
and support NGO’s that do critical upliftment work in
communities.

Socio-economic Infrastructure Development (SEID)
Steel shipping containers outlive their usefulness
as cargo carriers within five years and usually end
up abandoned in shipyards. The SEID portfolio
recycles these containers to develop a
combination of containers and fixed
buildings to provide essential infrastructure in
communities. This unique infrastructure model
has transformed numerous communities and
enables people to live healthier, safer and
more fulfilled lives

• 23 728 non-financial beneficiaries.
• 45 SMME members trained.
• 15 participants benefiting from Adult Basic Education and
Training (ABET) programme.
• 753 destitute families benefited from food distribution
programme.

training of SMME members.

Employee Volunteerism
Transnet employees volunteer their time to render
assistance to needs in the communities. Transnet
leverages skills and competencies that lie in the
hands of its more than 60 000 employees to make a
difference in communities in need.

Grants Portfolio
Community-based and non-profit organisations play a crucial
role in uplifting impoverished communities. Once-off funding
is granted to deserving projects in the areas of health,
education, sport, containerised assistance and arts and
culture. Generic requests outside the focus areas are also
considered if the organisation demonstrates sound corporate
governance and good business principles.
