The Prime Minister emphasised on the following points during his address to the world leaders: G20 needed an action-oriented agenda of collective, coordinated and targeted action. The challenges and opportunities are common for all G20 nations. To benefit all, G20 will have to act decisively. The Government launched a new scheme for the unskilled non-farming labourers. In accordance with this raise, all non-agricultural workers will see a hike of 42 per cent in their wages.

Minister of External Affairs, Ms. Sushma Swaraj attended the canonisation cer-emony of Mother Teresa at a mass in St Peter’s square, Vatican on Sunday, 4th September 2016. The ceremony was presided by Pope Francis in the pres-ence of over 100,000 pilgrims. India’s Ambassador to Italy, Anil Wadhwa hosted the 12-member delegation, including the minister.

On 26th August 2016, Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Transforming India lecture series that aims at building knowledge systems for the states and the Centre. The Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, Shri Tharman Shanmugaratnam delivered the first key note address on “India and the Global Economy”.

The BRICS Film Festival was held at the Sirifort Auditorium Complex, New Delhi, from September 2nd to September 6th,2016. Earlier, Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi proposed the idea of hosting the BRICS film festival and film awards. Four films each from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa were shown during the course of the event.

The event was conducted prior to India hosting the 8th BRICS summit in Goa from 15th to 16th October 2016. The event expects around 900 delegates from the member nations

The President of the Arab Republic of Egypt His Excellency Mr. Abdel Fattah AI-Sisi recently visited India between the 1 to 3 September on the invitation of the President of India, His Excellency Shri Pranab Mukherjee. The President of Egypt was accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Mr. Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Trade and Industry His Excellency Mr. Tarek Kabil, Minister of Finance His Excellency Mr. Amr ElGarhy, senior officials and a business delegation.

Shri Narendra Modi, Honourable Prime Minister of India held a one to one meeting and extensive delegation level talks with President AI-Sisi.The two countries also signed an agreement on Maritime Transport which would help establish co-operation on the seas.

The two leaders laid emphasis on strengthening of bilateral relations based on the three pillars of closer political and security co-operation, deeper economic engagement, and scientific collaboration and wider cultural and people-to-people contacts.
