• To develop understanding of and promote research on transformations to sustainabilitywhich are of significant social, economic and policy concern throughout the world and of great relevance to both academics and stakeholders.

• To build capacity, overcome fragmentation and have a lasting impact on both society and the research landscape by cultivating durable research collaboration across multiple borders (including across low- and high-income countries), disciplinary boundaries, and with practitioners and societal partners.

MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

• To advance the integration and synthesis of knowledge on transformations to sustainability through facilitated activities and support for purposeful interaction among the T2S research projects.

• To contribute to the building of a global research community around social transformations to sustainability and to connect them to other relevant communities of practice worldwide.

• To establish a sustainable, open resource base/platform for the academic and practitioner community, to support and stimulate learning and knowledge exchange, linking up with existing platform(s).

• To develop strategic communication with target audiences.

Objectives

• To build a shared understanding of the vision of the Transformations to Sustainability programme

• To extend and deepen an open community of researchers on transformations to sustainability

• To learn from the meeting of two generations of transdisciplinary projects on transformations to sustainability

• To share and develop concepts and measures of outcomes and impact in research for transformations to sustainability

• To develop a perspective and plans for programme-level activities and engagement in 2019 and beyond

• To extend our personal and professional networks

• To be stimulated, motivated and inspired!

• To present the programme to a wider audience (three T2S sessions at the WSSF 2018)

This session will focus on exploring the perspectives and insights offered by the social sciences vis-à-vis the challenges of climate change, sustainability and security. The keynote speaker will set out their view of the benefit of putting the social sciences at the heart of sustainability research and the contribution the social sciences can make to finding solutions, challenging assumptions and changing how we do research for sustainability. The Belmont Forum-NORFACE T2S projects leaders will present their intended contribution to social transformations and what they see as the main challenges ahead, in the near and longer term.
