MISSION STATEMENT
We are a Catholic community united by love, illuminated by the Transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ. We gather as a People
of God seeking unity through the Holy Spirit to Worship through the Sacred Liturgy, Prayer and Sacraments, and to proclaim the
Christian message which promotes Justice, Reconciliation and Service through Evangelization, Faith Formation and Discipleship.
Mass Schedule & Intenons
Due to the CANCELLATION of ALL MASSES per the
Most Reverend Bishop Edward Scharfenberger of the Dio-
cese of Albany, until further notice, the intentions for the
weekend Masses of March 21 & 22, and all following
weekend Masses, will be rescheduled to a later date when
the celebration of Masses resumes.
The 4th Sunday in Lent March 22, 2020
From the Desk of Deacon Chris…
THE CORONAVIRUS –
WHAT CAN WE DO? WE CAN PRAY!
On Monday March 16th, I received the
announcement that I hoped would not hap-
pen, but somehow knew might be neces-
sary. That morning I read these words,
“Due to growing concerns and medical ad-
vice related to the rapid spread of COVID-
19 in social settings, Bishop Edward B.
Scharfenberger has announced that all
regularly scheduled public Masses in the
Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany – ex-
cept weddings and funerals – will be can-
celed until further notice.”
The worldwide pandemic caused by the
coronavirus brings about a crisis we are
not familiar with. Normally, when we face
a crisis situation, we tend to gather togeth-
er as a community to comfort one another.
Now we are told just the opposite. The
way we can stop the spread of this virus is
by staying home, and staying away from
one another. We are even being told to
keep between three and six feet of space
between us. So what are we to do?
Bishop Scharfenberger gave us a great
answer in his letter to all, dated March 13,
2020. The Bishop reminds us that we can
make our homes a sacred space, and we
can all pray. Our prayers can keep us to-
gether as a community of faith, even when
we are physically apart. No matter what
the circumstances are, we can always ask
the Holy Spirit to protect and guide us
during these difficult times.
My prayers will be for all of us, as we
find ourselves in a crisis that seems to be
evolving on a daily basis. With all of the
information that is out there, both accurate
and false information, we can easily be-
come overwhelmed by uncertainty and
fear. We might tend to be overly anxious
and panic, and prayer can help us avoid
those situations. Prayer can calm us, and
give us the assurance that Jesus walks with
us even when we feel so alone and afraid.
WORDS TO LIVE BY
“Lent is like a long ‘retreat’ during which we
can turn back into ourselves and listen to the
voice of God,
in order to defeat the temptations of the Evil
One.
it is a period of spiritual ‘combat’
which we must experience alongside Jesus,
not with pride and presumption,
but using the arms of faith:
prayer, listening to the Word of God and penance..
In this way we will be able to celebrate Easter in truth, ready to
renew the promises of our Baptism.”
~Pope Benedict XVI
The Diocese of Albany is an excellent source that we can
turn to for guidance. There are updates and resources on
the diocesan web page @ rcda.org/coronavirus. In addi-
tion a Faith at Home page includes links to livestreamed
Mass, daily Scripture readings, saints of the day, and sug-
gestions for creating a sacred space at home. Just go to:
rcda.org/coronavirus/resources.
So, let’s stay at home, and pray for each other.
God bless
Deacon Chris

Health Tips: Cough Etiquette: Why it’s So Important:
If there were ever a perfect time to practice good hygiene
etiquette, it is now. A tough cold and flu season has put
most of us on high alert. And the threat of novel corona-
virus (COVID-19) is enough to make the most tranquil
person lose their cool. But rest assured, there are polite,
considerate and safe ways to manage your symptoms,
while also protecting those around you. Here’s what you
need to know if you find yourself coughing or sneezing in
public: If you’re coughing or sneezing in public, particu-
larly in a healthcare space like a waiting room or the ER
you may be asked to wear a mask. Try not to take offense
to this – it’s for everyone’s safety, including your own If
you’re not wearing a mask, follow these guidelines:
The best way to prevent others from getting cold and
flu novel coronavirus (COVID-19):
• 1. Use a tissue to cover your mouth and nose every
single time you cough or sneeze. (Resort to coughing
into your elbow if a tissue is not available. Never
cough into your hands or open air.
• 2. Always turn your face away from people around
you when coughing or sneezing.
• 3. Place your used tissue immediately in the trash
can.
• 4. WASH YOUR HANDS with soap and water or
use an alcohol based hand sanitizer that contains at
least 60-95% alcohol after you cough or sneeze.
• 5. When you cough into the air, you can actually send
germs as far as 3-6 feet in front of you and if you
cough into your hands could transfer germs from place
to place when you touch something else.

************************************************************************************
While we are in this time of Lent things are supposed to be dif-
ferent. This year that is certainly true. I offer these ideas to keep
Lent in your home.
A reminder that prayer can set the tone, though we are in lent we
can truly be a source of strength.
Here is a list of Scripture that can be used during this season
Woman at the Well John 4:4-42
Raising of Lazarus John 11
GOSPEL READINGS
March 22 John 9:1-41 March 29 John 11: 1-45
April 5 Matthew 26: 14 – 27 this is Palm Sunday, have a proces-
sion
Psalm 50 Psalm 90 Psalm 129
Each of these scripture readings focus on God’s mercy
Read through these as a family; see if one of them speaks to you.
Establish this as your theme for your Lenten experience. Con-
necting Lent to a specific scripture can help children enter into a
tradition of the church.
We are in Lent which is a time for purple. Have the children find
things that are purple in your home. Set up a prayer space with
all things purple. Let the children set up the prayer space, what
would they include and why. The why is the important part here
as adults we can learn from their child faith. Some things to con-
sider are a cross, a candle, a Bible, and symbols of what each
member of the family is doing for Lent. For example is they are
giving up food an empty bowl; if you are doing a monetary col-
lection something to hold that money; let the children use their
imagination with guidance.
Talk about different Lenten practices that they have heard about
Giving up a favorite treat, not playing a certain game, doing
someone else’s chore etc
Brainstorm some other ways that we can give of ourselves dur-
ing Lent. Clean out a closet and collect items that could be donat-
ed.
Write a letter or draw a picture and send it to an elderly relative,
a friend, or someone you could bring joy.
WRITE these ideas on slips of paper and pull one out a week or a
day whatever works for your family.
Mark the Bible to the beginning and end of the week’s gospel
reading.

March 22 John 9:1-41
March 29 John 11: 1-45
April 5 Matthew 26: 14 – 27 this is Palm Sunday, have a proces-
sion
When you read these scriptures, ask those gathered: Did some-
thing in the reading catch your attention? Did someone seem to
be talking to you? Who and who was this person to Jesus. Do
research on this person, what did they do before they were with
Jesus?
Did the Scripture give me an idea or make me think about a par-
ticular person or situation in my life?

ZUMBA—Monday Evenings-Cancelled until further notice
How did the reading make me feel? Does that feeling teach
me something?
Pray in Different Ways
Recite prayers that have been learned
Encourage children to have a conversation with God, like
they would with any friend.
Read a scripture reading and ask the children to tell you what
that scene looks like to them.
Have them choose to be one of the people in the reading. Talk
about that
Have children make a personal response to God. They can
write; a letter, a word, or poem, or draw a picture, write their
own prayer.
Throughout this time when we cannot physically gather let us
take comfort knowing that we are all praying for one another
“Let us remember that we are in the holy loving presence of
God”
