    Changing The Transaxle Oil

    1. Prepare Tools: we'll need a torque wrench, a breaker bar, a 1/2" to 3/8" socket adapter (if breaker barand/or torque wrench are 1/2"), a 17mm socket, two crush washers (see part numbers above), a special funnel

    (see below), oil pan capable of holding at least 3 quarts, and 3 quarts of Honda Manual Transmission Fluid(available at Acura/Honda dealerships).

    Socket Adaptor, Ace# 21296

    Funnel, Ace# 8099632, attach 3 feet of 1/2" I.D. clear plastic hose, Ace# 4027512

    replace short hose with longer hose, secure with nylon ties if needed.

    2. Drive car around for 10 minutes to warm up transmission oil.

    3. Jackup car and place securely on jack stands.

    Note: the transmission is very close to the exhaust pipes, which will be extremely hot. You may want to

    consider wearing protective gloves and long sleeved shirt. Try to remember these hot pipes and manifoldsbefore contacting them with your head and face.

    4. remove oil FILL plug using 17mm socket. Please see Service Manual diagram above for location. Pleaseremove this plug before draining the oil so if by chance you can't get it loose, your car won't be stuck with an

    empty transmission!

    5. Position oil pan below and towards driver's side of oil drain plug.

    6. Using a breaker bar and a 3/8" socket adapter (no socket, just the 3/8" adapter, cool eh?), loosen andremove the drain plug. The hot oil will immediately drain out so make sure you are not in the "line of fire"!

    7. Let it drain for as long as you want (long enough to crack open a pop and have a drink).

    8. While the oil is draining, install the new crush washers on the fill plug and drain plug. With a rag, cleanthe washers and the flanges of the plugs. Toss old crush washer in trash.

    9. Install the drain plug and torque to 29 lb-ft.

    10. Insert funnel between the airbox and strut bar in the engine compartment and snake the hose around andinsert into the fill plug.

    11. Fill with 2.9 quarts of oil. The oil will start draining out at about 2.7 quarts, at this time, remove the fillhose and screw in the fill plug; this can be a little messy. Torque to 33 lb-ft.

    12. Clean up!
