The MX-10160A Image Intensifier Tubes are designed for use in all night vision systems that use an inverting tube, such as aviator goggles, ground systems and weapon sights. Typically it is used in the L-3 M949 Aviator Goggle system but can also be used in other systems needing inverted images. The MX-10160A Gen III 18-mm image intensifier is completely self-contained with an integral high- voltage power supply. Equipped with automatic brightness control (ABC), this power supply provides constant output image brightness as light levels increase. It also provides bright-source protection to guard the tube against exposure to high levels of light. These Gen III image intensifier tubes consist of a high-efficiency GaAs photocathode bonded to a glass input window, a microchannel plate (MCP), and a P-43 phosphor screen deposited on an inverted output window. The Gen III photocathode is very sensitive to low-resolution levels of visible and near infrared light. It also provides very high signal-to-noise ratio for extended detection ranges in low-light conditions. The MX-10160A Gen III 18-mm image intensifier
