    Trans CarpathianSnowmobileAdventure

    Starting17thFebruary2013,inBaiaMare,Romania

    The Romanian Carpathian Mountains have a length of over 1000 kilometers.

    The project for 2013 is to cross about one third of that distance on

    snowmobiles. Start will be in Baia Mare and the trip will end 24 hours after

    the first team has arrived in Predeal. An estimated minimum riding time is 3

    days. Distance on snowmobile will be around 600 km. Each participant will

    have to be a member of the Trans Carpathian Snowmobile Club that will be

    founded before the race starts

    Founding meeting will be Sunday 17th February 2013 at 14:00 in Baia Marein Hotel Carpati, Strada Minerva nr. 16 (Google Maps Link). Here the route

    and the rules will be discussed and decided. Interested participants contact

    First possible starting time is Monday 18th February 2013 at 00:00. The

    starting point will be approx. 1 hour by car away from Baia Mare center

    Regulation Proposal:

    Along the route from Baia Mare to Predeal will be 20-30 Checkpoints that

    need to be reached in numeric order. Every participant can choose his way inbetween the Checkpoints. Every participant will have to be within a 500 m

    circle at every checkpoint.

    Not reaching a checkpoint will lead to a 12 hour time penalty

    There will be 2 obligatory Stop control points, one in the middle of theracetrack and one shortly before the finish. New checkpoints will be

    published there. Participants that got penalized need to stay at that stop

    control point as long as they has gotten penalized.

    Each participant has to rest 10 hours per day. The rest time may be hold in 3

    blocks where one has to have a minimum of minimum 4 hours. Not observingthe 10 hours rest time per calendar day will result in a double penalty time for

    the difference of not rested time.

    Driving more than 500 meters on national roads (DN and a number) will lead

    into a time penalty. 10 minutes for every 500 meters. Riding within 300

    meters parallel to a national road must be frequently documented by filmingGPS and track with helmet camera or each 500 meters a photo where riding

    track and GPS waypoint is visible.

    Every participant is responsible to have a fuel and service supply team (for

    general fairness not more than 2 cars). Supply teams may NOT use

    snowmobiles. Meeting points with supply teams shall be at road crossings.

    Extra fuel containers on the snowmobile might be very useful. It is the

    participants responsibility to navigate with maps, GPS, Google Earth. All

    kind of navigation help is allowed. NO GPS track will be supplied!

    It is the participants responsibility to choose their own route due to weatherand snow conditions. It is the participants responsibility to carry equipment

    for bivouac and first aid, avalanche protection. There is a high change of

    staying a night in the forest, so participants need to be prepared

    Each participant must carry a GPS tracker, which will be all times attached tothe snowmobile. The price for the tracker will be between 50 and 100 euros -

    more details soon. Each team shall carry a satellite telephone or SPOT

    Messenger. It is the teams responsibility to not lose each other.

    A team must be of minimum 2 persons. A team bigger than 2 persons may

    continue riding if a team member quits, but only if that team member hasbeen guarded to a safe and populated location.

    Each participant can pay a fee for helicopter rescue to Dunca Expeditii - theamount will be communicated shortly.

    There will be no entry fee. The expenses and cost for GPS monitoring,

    conference room, and GPS tracking needs to be covered and will be divided

    between the participants.
