Quick Summary of GeoNode
• GeoNode used to Share Maps/Layers/Documents with Metadata attachments.
• Information Sharing tool: – Public – Between Registered Users – Between Registered Groups

Responsibility of Information Shared
• The nature: reliability, quality, relevance, timeliness of information shared lies with the author (person uploading information).
![Page 5: Training Workshop 4 th March 2015 Purpose: For GIS community to get familiar with the GeoNode system. Networking](https://reader030.vdocuments.mx/reader030/viewer/2022032723/56649d015503460f949d4829/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Why bother
• Create a repository of official GIS information• Information Sharing made easier with Public,
registered users and groups.• Metadata: Get recognition of your hard work.

Change Profile Settings
• Edit Profile Details– Change Avatar– Input user details– …etc
![Page 10: Training Workshop 4 th March 2015 Purpose: For GIS community to get familiar with the GeoNode system. Networking](https://reader030.vdocuments.mx/reader030/viewer/2022032723/56649d015503460f949d4829/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
How to add Groups

• Assign registered members to the group.• Send invites.
![Page 11: Training Workshop 4 th March 2015 Purpose: For GIS community to get familiar with the GeoNode system. Networking](https://reader030.vdocuments.mx/reader030/viewer/2022032723/56649d015503460f949d4829/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
How to Upload Layers
• Go to LAYERS -> “Upload Layers”• Requires 5 ESRI shapefiles; .dbf, .prj, .qpj, .shp,
.shx. This is generated from your GIS Interface: Map Info, QGIS, ArcGIS
• Set Permissions:– Who can view?– Who can download it?– …etc
![Page 12: Training Workshop 4 th March 2015 Purpose: For GIS community to get familiar with the GeoNode system. Networking](https://reader030.vdocuments.mx/reader030/viewer/2022032723/56649d015503460f949d4829/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
How to add metadata
• After uploading layers/documents, you will be required to add metadata.
• Note: Metadata details can be tailored to suit your needs, contact the administrator to make relevant changes for you or for your organisation.

How to Create Maps
• IMPORTANT NOTE: – Maps are a collection of layers– Can only view/edit maps based on permissions set by the owner.
• MAPS - > “Create a new Map”• Choose a Base Map, Eg: Google Satellite• Add Layers -> EMCI WMS Server• Double Click Layer (penryhn_drm) -> Layers • Save Map. Give a good title (Map of Penryhn) and abstract.• Set the Metadata and Permissions for the Map.
![Page 14: Training Workshop 4 th March 2015 Purpose: For GIS community to get familiar with the GeoNode system. Networking](https://reader030.vdocuments.mx/reader030/viewer/2022032723/56649d015503460f949d4829/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
How to Create/Modify layers within Maps
• Browse to your Map – Map of Penryhn• View Map• Click on the layer you wish to add/modify.• Click “Edit” in sub-menu bar. • Choose either Create or Modify. Click on map
window.• For this example: Create/Modify will apply to
point data.
