Training Requirements for Educational Supervision

This Guidance has been written in light of the changes to the training requirements for educational supervisors which came into effect in 2019 1 For New Educational Supervisors
Any individual wishing to train as an educational supervisor will need to have the following:
Option 1 – E-Learning For Health www.portal.e-lfh.org.uk 1.1 Modules in the Educator Training Resource Suite which looks like this:
Which Modules in the Educator Training Resource Suite do I need to complete? There are lots of them which refer to say General Practice and Nursing You only need to complete the ones on the crib sheet below:
And
1.2 The module in the Educational and Clinical Supervisors and the 2016
Contract which looks like this:
Or Option 2 – Recognition of Previous Training:
If trainers prefer, or have previously received training from other providers, HETV will accept the following alternatives provided they were delivered after 1 August 2013 and are mapped to the seven AoME domains adopted by the GMC in their Implementation and Recognition of Trainers Plan. 2.1 Confirmed, completed programmes provided by other Local Offices / Deaneries for ES
training, or 2.2 Training for educational supervisor programmes run by Medical Royal Colleges, or 2.3 Training endorsed by the AoME for educational supervisor training And
Equality and Diversity – this can either be the module in the Educator Training Resource Suite https://portal.e-lfh.org.uk or Trust training

2 For Fully Trained GMC Approved Educational Supervisors Educational supervisors will be asked to demonstrate 4 hours of CPD a year of relevant educational activities. This would be captured in the CPD section as part of the annual appraisal. HETV are currently building a local programme of CPD events to support the 4 hours, however, any educationally relevant activity provided by the OUH or the royal colleges would suffice. Examples are (but not restricted to the list below):
Horus training
Supporting the Trainee in Difficulty course
Any appropriate courses run by HETV
Any appropriate online learning though eLfH
OUH Resilience Training run through Silver Lining Training
