3. REQUIREMENTS

3.1 Commercial Parta Commercial parts,having suitable properties, may be usedwhere, on the date of invitation for bids,there are no suitable standard parts. In anycase, commercial utility parts such as screws,bolts, nuts, and cotter pins, having suitableproperties, may be used provided they can bereplaced by standard parts (MS or AN) with-out alterations.

3.3 Design and Construction

3.3.1 Construction of the components shallbe in accordance with the instructions speci-fied in the illustrations (Fig 1 through 9)contained in this specification. They shall bebuilt to withstand the strains, jars, and otherconditions incident to shipping, storage, andservice.

3.3.2 Worknuuwhip. Construction and fin-ish shall be consistent with the best worhnan-ship practices. Particular attention shall begiven to square construction, straight cuts,and freedom from excessively sharp edges.Dimensions and tolerances not specified shallbe as close as is consistent with the best work-manship practices.

3.3.3 Painting. A minimum of one coat ofone coat of primer and two coats of finishpaint shall be applied where painting is speci-fied.

3.3.4 Government Furnished Property.The following components will be furnishedby the Government for inclusion in the ap-plicable kits:

Except as otherwise specified, the suppliermay utilize his own facilities or any com-mercial laboratory acceptable to the Govern-ment. The Government reserves the right toperform any of the inspections set forth inthe specification where such inspections aredeemed necessa~ to assure supplies and serv-ices conform to prescribed requirements.

4.2 Classification of Tests. The inspectionand testing of the training aid kits shall beclassified as acceptance tests.

4.3 Acceptance Tests. Acceptance testsshall consist of individual tests.

4.3.1 Individual Tests. Each training aidkit shall be subjected to an examination ofproduct described under 4.4 test methods.

4.4 Test Methods.

4.4.1 Examhuthn of Product. ~adi itemof the training aid kits shall be visually ex-amined for workmanship, identification andoperational marking, operational Perforn~-Wante, and conformance to the specific designrequirements of the drawings.

4.5 Rejection and Retests. When a trainingaid kit fails to meet the individual tests, itshall not be accepted until the extent and thecause of the failure shall have been deter-mined and appropriately corrected. The con-tractor shall explain to the Governmentrepresentative the cause of the failure andthe action taken to preclude recurrence. Aftercorrection, the individual tests affected by therework shall be repeated.

4.6 Inspection of the presemation, pack-aging and packing shall be in accordance withinstructions described under 5. Preparationfor Delivery.

5. Preparation for Delivery.

5.1 Components shall be segegated as kitsand pfickaged in accordance with the manu-facturer’s commercial practice unless other-

wise sp=ified by the applicable procurementdocument.

5.2 Marking. Interior and exterior contain-ers shall be marked in accordance with MILSTD-129. The subject marking nomenclatureshall be:

Training Aid Kits, Mar_nship, SmallArms Weapon.

A/E 29U-T1 Kit (appropriate designation)

6. Notes.

6.1 Intended Use. The training aids coveredby this specification are intended for use intraining programs for marksmanship withsmall arms weapons. It will be utilized to ac-complish the training of personnel in the es-sentials of operation, nomenclature, correctsighting and safety procedures for small armsweapons. (Item quantity in kits recom-mended for classroom instruction of twenty-five students.)

6.2 Documents applicable to the utilizationof training equipment are as follows:
